First of all, Nassau is the pits. Although the water is beautiful the on shore excursions are a a waste of money. Snorkeling with the stingrays was a waste money. The stingrays are in a fenced-in beach area, which takes approximately 45 minutes to get to (the last fifteen on foot). . As to Nassau your best shot is just to go on a walking tour. As to St. Thomas, it is hardly in any better condition than Nassau. Both of these places are poverty stricken. The scenery is beautiful; but under no circumstances should you take a tour bus/pick-up truck called "Best of St. Thomas." All it consists of is the driver taking you from outdoor market (hats, t-shirts, etc.) to outdoor market, stopping and thereby compelling you to mill about by default for 15-20 minutes, before he cranks up to take you to the next one. It is a wasted 3 hours. The trips to the beaches with snorkeling are OK but crowded. St. Maarten/Martin is to die for, however. Be sure to go to Orient beach; and be sure to take the Golden Eagle catamaran ride. It is great fun and a highight.
