Postby Old Traveler » Sun Nov 14, 2004 8:54 pm

:) I used Travelocity to go to Ireland. Had so much trouble reaching agent so tried a local travel agent on trip to Alps. Tried Affordable on next trip to Italy=good service and good discoount (Ask for Donna). . I am going to use her on a trip to Greece next Spring. Bon Voyage

I booked a Trafalgar tour to Canada last year.. .. . Same tour as I would have booked with Trafalgar themselves or with another travel agent, PLUS a discount! I was happy with the results, so I have already booked this year's tour with them.

affordable tours

We found affordable tours on the internet last year. Booked a Tauck tour to Nova Scotia with Pam. Great service, even rang us in Australia over a concern she had. All documentation arrived well prior to our departure, and the promised discount arrived by cheque after we returned home. We were more than happy with their service and will use them again this year for Ireland

I searched the whole internet and found that Affordable Tours had the best prices for Globus Tours. Not only best prices, also great service. We are very pleased with the company. You should not be disappointed. :D

Friends and I wanted to take a Christmas markets tour to Germany, and I did a lot of research before booking with Affordable Tours. We had no problems and our agent was always willing to answer our questions either by phone or e-mail. The bonus, of course, was getting a 10% discount for our Globus tour. All materials arrived in a timely manner and I definitely would book again with Affordable Tours. It is a great way to save a bit of money.

I used a local agent to book 3 Globus tours in the past and she was fine but no discount.
This year I found Affordable tours and booked my Avalon River cruise next July with Affordable. I was pleased with the discount and Sandra has answered every email promptly. I will use Sandra and Affordable for future trips to Europe. Next year we will do the Monogram Italy tour and the year after I think Ireland and Scotland self driving tour sounds like fun. I will see if Affordable will book hotels etc for that. I see that they reprsent CIE too.

Letsgo, contact the tourist board for Ireland for information on self-drive tours. You may be interested in staying in B&Bs in Ireland and only book your first and last night hotel stay with an agent. That's what we did several years ago. Then, we booked the other nights as we went. We found the B&B owners very helpful in advising us about our next day's travel. We loved the B&Bs in Ireland; also, stay in a castle if you can - a wonderful experience. I am sure you can get the same info for Scotland. For that trip, we did a Scotland in depth with Globus. Ireland is one of my favorite countries; I would return in a heartbeat!

Thanks,Great idea.
How was it driving on those narrow roads in Ireland?.We toured it very briefly with Globus as a part of the Great Britian tour and the coach just barely squeezed by on the roads.I was glad I wasn't driving a car the other way. How many days do you think it would take to drive around Ireland in the south and northwest? I don't think I care to much about going back to Dublin. It was my least favorite city on a 16 day tour.Did you go to Northern Ireland too?I guess we will just go thru Dublin to catch the ferry to Wales and then onto Scotland. I really want to go back to Scotland.Do you think we can find the same type of B&B's and car tour in Scotland? The only city we saw there was Edinburgh. Love that city.

Letsgo, if you do go to Scotland, try to get tickets for the Military Tatoo in Edinburgh. I believe they have it only in July and August. Check with your travel agent. She can get tickets or you can order online. I just checked and they are 75 pounds each for reserved seating.
Cheers

Hi, Letsgo. We did not do northern Ireland on our trip. We flew into Shannon, stayed in Galway for the first night and then made our way south around the Ring of Kerry and eventually to Dublin, our last city before flying to London. Yes, the roads are daunting at first, but you'll get used to them. The roundabouts were a little tricky and we sometimes went around several times before we figured out where to turn. I am sure we were quite a sight to locals! We did, though, rent an automatic car since neither of us felt proficient enough to drive a stick shift. We were there 8 days but we spent two nights in Dublin. Although the distances are short, the roads are two lane and it took double the time we estimated to get from place to place. Of course, we stopped at every interesting little town along the way and got lost fairly often. Once, we ended up in a sheep pasture! Luckily, there was a little old lady tending the sheep who directed us back to the road. But, this is the fun of driving! We loved our driving vacation through Ireland and I know you will too. The people were wonderful and very helpful. Since we stayed in small towns, we were usually the attraction in the pubs where we stopped for a little nip after dinner! As far as Scotland is concerned, I don't have any first hand knowlege about B&Bs since we were on a tour, but I would bet that the same is available. Have fun driving on the "other" side of the road!

I am doing the Essential Britain and Ireland tour in June which includes Scotland. The pace is very fast, but any suggestions would be appreciated. First time traveler to Europe and excited to go!! Affordable has been terrific!! Ideas on optionals?? Weather, clothes, my big concern is packing for almost 2 weeks in one 30" suitcase!!
All advice is welcomed!! Thanks :D

Hi! I may not be of much help in terms of the trip you have planned as we have not been there yet . .. .. . we got back at the end of February from a trip day trip which included the Globus Down Under Discovery with Fiji and Hawaii . .. .. . and we did San Francisco on our own. We were gone for 31 days. The challenges we faced in packing were trying to be ready for warm weather, cool weather and cold weather (San Francisco). . We made sure that we had a variety of clothing that could be layered. We were limited in one suitcase each of 50 lbs . .. .. . and had to wind up buying another one just to bring home souvenirs. If we had planned better, I would have taken less underwear (washed undies in the hotel sink, etc.), which added to the weight. I did actually wear everything that I took, which is a miracle for me.

If you have other questions, please feel free to let me know.

Postby gec659 » Thu Jun 07, 2007 11:53 am

We booked our Colloseum to Big Ben Globus Family trip through AFFORDABLE Tours after booking through another agent who would not match their discount.. . Affordable actually "picked up" our booking after the other agent "released" it.. . we are 6 people so as you can imagine, the saving was significant.. . ALOT of cappucinos in ITALY.. . I would reccomend SANDY, she was wonderful & responded to all our e mails & concerns promptly.. . We are leaving JULY 20.. . Im sure it will be great!! do not hesitate to use them :)

I'm so glad that you were able to get a good discount. I have been pleased with the two tours we have booked through Affordable Tours (we used Kiki) . .. .. . and we will use them for our next big adventure . .. .. . wherever it may be.

Enjoy your trip! 8)

I think that if you compare their prices with other companies, you will be pleased. I know we were. We will continue to do business with them the next time we decide on our next great adventure!
