my travel agent wants me to pay singles supplement

Postby jcapple » Fri Jul 23, 2004 11:19 pm

Has anyone joined Cosmos tours lately? I am joining a tour in September. I'm from Asia. I know that you don't need to pay singles supplement in this kind of travel companies because they will match you with solo travelers in the group. if there are no solo travelers to match, you will be given your own room but you don't pay for the singles supplement. But my travel agent here wants me to pay the singles supplement. Has the policies at Cosmos changed?

Thank you.

single supplement

No. I am also booked on a Cosmos tour for September. I originally signed up for a "guaranteed share" but recently changed my mind and asked my travel agent to call Cosmos and let them know that I want a private room.

I don't know why your agent would insist you pay the single supplement unless she gets a commission.

I am travelling to the New England states. Where are you going? Enjoy!

single supplement

Looks like september is the month to be travelling. I am also travelling in september with cosmos but am doing the west coast of canada. I also said that i would share at the beginning but decieded on the single supplement also. Having done other tour's and being put in with someone else, is just pot luck really. One tour i shared i had a really great roomy, but the other two tours were not so lucky. I think it's worth the money! I also dont know why your travel agent would push you into paying the single supplement!!! I know that travel agents do get a commission on all sales, but how much and on what i'm not sure.

Hi J. Caple,

I hope that you have had this fixed already, but it sounds like a mix-up between the two of you (you and your agent) or the two of them (her and her company). .

I use Cosmos and sevral other co.s reg.. . They offer the "guaranteed share" which someone spoke about (only guar. same sex) and with that you have the twin rate.**

**If you don't jeap. anything by doing this (other arrangements), if you have a good agent he/she can monitor it daily for you. Late aft. call and ask if there are any guaranteed shares rright now that are girls. If the women answering appears to be a . .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..tttrlalalalaaaa, hang up any call back in 30 mins.. . Someone you can relate to on the phone (and not her) ahould be ablle to help you!! If you are less than 10 days out, how many 'single' please are there going to be booking that late so you chances go up.

To the person with the remark about the travel agent. Unfortunately you are right. Nowdays you REALLY need to find yourself a GOOD travel agent who will work soley for you.. . One that WELCOMES the info. you bring him from the net (hey, once in a blue-moon it mighr be better - MIGHT!!)

More often than not it will not be better. Some agents will take their little 500.00 commission and book what is NOT best for the client. They won't last long, because until these days more than ever agents rely on 'repeat' clients and 'referrals' I know it seems liek it has been a long long time wince anyone has answered your questions/gave advice and if it too late for you please contact me anytime!! J.R.

It is up to you whether you pay the single supplement or take a chance on a shared room. I personally think it is worth the extra money because you dont know who you will be allocated with. They could be any sort of person, any age etc. I did a European tour just recently and found travelling alone was fine especially as you get a double seat on the coach as well. You can mix around at dinner times, for lunch and as you rotate on the bus, different people around you as well. e.g. one girl in her twenties was put in with a woman in her eighties. There were no other choices.

I have just gotten back from a cosmos tour of canada, and although I paid the single supplement and 5 other women did as well, we did not get a double seat on the bus to ourselves. So, it's not guaranteed on the bus, but the hotel room is guaranteed to yourself if you pay the supplement.
