ARE PASSPORTS NEEDED TO JAMAICA????

ARE PASSPORTS NEEDED TO JAMAICA????

Postby RubyAnn » Wed Aug 11, 2004 11:55 am

I know I read that passports were NOT needed, but recently read on someones post that a new law is to be activated in April 2005 requiring one.
This was what I read:
"You will need a passport as of April 05 to travel outside the US with the exception of Canada and Mexico. The Customs agent at the airport informed me of this when I returned from Jamaica in April of this year. For now a birth certificate will do."
Does anyone know about this?
Once again, thanks to all for continuous help!

never heard that before, but a passport is easier to carry than a birth certificate with a raised seal anyway. if you carry your birth certificate you also have to have a second form of ID too. we just carry passports so as to avoid the confusion.

Please remember that it does take up to 6 weeks to receive your passport after you file for one! I think you can do a rush order for them but it cost $$$$. .

We use passports when we travel as well. I guess I just feel it's easier for everyone involved, less to carry, etc. :)

I believe passports are a requirement if you're flying on Air Jamaica. Don't hold me to this, but I believe Air Jamaica made passports mandatory last year (or was it early this year). . In any case, those of you flying on air jamaica might want to check it out :)
