Aweful experience with Gate1

Travel with Gate 1 for Italy and Greece

Postby kkamins » Sat Apr 03, 2004 9:46 am

I totally disagree. My child and I used Gate 1 in December for a trip to Florence and Rome and again in early March for a trip to Greece. Of course Gate 1 has NOTHING to do with the individual tour guide. Additionally, everything, and I do mean everything, went as smoothly as it possibly could have. The Hotels were very nice and stylish, the food was wonderful and we enjoyed all the tours we signed up for and in particular the knowledge conveyed to us by the tour guides.
It is my sincerest hope that I can continue to use Gate 1 everything 3 months to see the world.

You will find the same sales pitches on Trafalgar, it's how they make their money so they can help keep the tour prices down. It's very simple, when they say "we're going to the glass blowing factory and then you have free time on your own" . .. .. . leave then. LOL That way you don't waste 35 min in a factory. I also recommend doing a lot on your own. In Sorrento we didn't take the group tour to Capri, but went on our own. The hydrofoil was cheap, we got a ride on the coach down to the "inlaid wood factory" but had a map to get us to the pier while they were shopping there. We ended up having a lot more time on Capri for a lot less money. These vacations are what you make of them.

My first tour, 8 countries with Trafalgars 18-35 yr old thing.. .. . we didn't go with them to the Louvre. We were told we'd never get in waiting in the lines and that Trafalgar had special access. HA! We walked right in. Had about 2 people in front of us in a line. Went to see what we wanted to see.. .. . then went to the Musee D'Orsay, the Opera House, Invalides, Rodin Museum, and visited Pere Lachaise Cemetary (loads of writers, poets, and musicians) all on our own, in the time they visited the Museum and had lunch!

I agree, don't even think about trying their Greece tour

Hi, you are right on the money, I just got back from a 10 day greece tour. Greece itself was lovely but Gate1 is horrible!! I am trying to warn as many people as I can. Anyone who had a good experience is very hard to believe. Not one single person on our tour was satisfied. Some people even left.

Unethical treatment from Gate 1

Postby Joel » Mon Aug 30, 2004 11:02 am

 We just did a Gate 1 trip to Greece and service was unrelaiable. We learned that promises of tickets and connecting transportation had to be verified, ahead of time, otherwise they would forget about us, almost every time.

Our flight into JFK was delayed because of weather, causing us to miss our connecting flight to Athens. We were stuck in New York for 2 days but were able to readjust most of the remainer of the trip. The rub is that Gate 1 now refuses to return the money for the hotel in Athens for those two days, close to $400. I'm sure the hotel wasn't paid so Gate 1 is just keeping our money because they can get away with it. I suggest everyone avoid Gate 1 because of these sleezy business business practices.

Gate 1 refunds

Hi,
Sorry to hear about your trouble with Gate1. They are really incredible, aren't they? I just wanted to let you know that I threatened to go to the Atty. General with their lack of cooperation and misleading tours we paid for.
They ended up reimbursing us for the difference between a plane ride and a ferry ride to Mykonos, also, we got the Athens Day Tour free for them screwing us over on that. Also, we signed on for the Athens by Night Tour, which was awful, false advertising all the way. They hemmed and hawed about it but we at least got 1/2 our money back. All in all,
$135 per person (there were 6 of us). . Hope you get something for all your aggravation
