We just got back from there, you can read my review of the resort elsewhere of Dunn's River Sandals. We went to the falls and didn't have Norman, but did take the "fun way". . It is awesome. It is not hard at all, it's just that the big groups go along the sides of the falls and the fun way takes you more up the middle. Our guide showed us places where we could roll of the rock and fall straight into a deep pool, or stand under a specific spot and make the water come over your head and make this water umbrella. It was so awesome. But you won't get that if you go with 20 people, we were with 4 and we noticed how many cool things we did that the big group in front of us didn't do. The only reason we didn't pass them is because we went ways that took a little longer to climb, otherwise we would have passed them long ago (cuz it takes so long for 20 people to move and what not). . The falls are awesome. Have fun! Call A-Z Jamaica Planners and they'll hook you up.

Norman asked us if we want to go the easy way, the fun way or the hard way and we told him the fun way. Actually, I am sure they all go the same way. DPerfect is right.. ..not hard but a lot of fun!. . Norman took pictures with our water camera (don't forget to bring one). . We stopped at the pools, did the water umbrella, climbed holding on to the rocks on the side while the water was coming down, went sliding down rocks etc. The large line of people don't do all of this. Again, Oscar at a-z took us about 2:00 in the afternoon after all the cruise ship people left. Since I was there on a cruise just 6 months before, I knew how crowded it is in the morning. I just turned 50 and I had no problem.. .. ..but I did see some 20 year olds who had some trouble climbing! But, my husband and I are pretty active and like the outdoors In November, we went with friends of ours who are not so active and they loved it too! I am anxious to hear all about your trip!

New Years Eve?

Postby MaineGuy » Fri Mar 05, 2004 7:42 pm

Does anyone know if DR has a special theme for New Years Eve? We will be there this coming NY and I was wondering what would be happening. Four couples are going together and of all of us, I am the one who likes to plan. My wife and I went to OR for our honeymoon 6+ years ago and it was nice. A bit on the smaller side, but nice. Dunns seems larger from what I have seen. I want to do a horse back trip and maybe a jeep or something tour. Anyone have any suggestions on this?

Also, I want to plan on upgrading to the Concierge service. Is it worth it or will they just upgrade you if you ask? At OR we had the little huts in the gardens and they seemed almost the same as the rooms in the main building.

Any info would be appreciated

SDR or SOR

Postby TOOLAustin » Sun Nov 28, 2004 6:30 pm

My fiance and I are planning a trip to Jamiaca and have a dliemna. We are contemplating staying at SOR in a private garden villa w/semi private pool or a premium room at SDR. I hear the beaches are better at SDR and so is th nightlife. We want something that has nice spacious beaches, active nightlife and cool pools. Basically, I guess we are wondering if we should do the better room at the lesser resort or the more average room at a better resort.

Input? anyone?

haven't been to SOR so i can't compare. i assume that if you are going to go for the night life, then you are kind of a more active couple. if that's so, you need to go to SDR. SOR, from what i hear, is much more relaxed (even by day). . as far as nightlife goes, you're setting yourself up for disappointment if you go to any sandals resort for the night life. they're all dead (from what i hear and what we experienced at SDR). . remember, this is a honeymoon resort [clears throat]. . need i say more? there's fun stuff to do (piano bar, disco), but don't expect crowds. actually, most of the friends we met at Sandals, we met at night cuz it was more smaller crowds. anyway, don't know about the beaches, but for activity, you want to go SDR. and in my opinion, don't go for the high end room, go for more nights. it is so not worth it to spend a couple thou on a high room for 4 nights. you'll wish you had stayed longer.
