 Our Summit Cruise Sept. 17 that got changed to Sept 20 cutting three ports and the cruise company was not fair at all with letting us know anything and once on board changed there minds again about comp.
I think I would have to really think about how these 2000 passangers were not really treated well by the company..the crew and ship was great as the fault was not with them
Who went on your cruise? Did you have any kids? We are looking for a cruise to Alaska for us and our 3 sons - ages 15, 12, and 9. Any information would be helpful
My family went on the Celebrity Summit from Anchorage (Seward) to Vancouver June 2004 and had a terrific time. Our children ranged in age from 10-16 (4 kids). . The cruise has a limited amount of kids on it and the average age is quite old, but the trade off is that it is a higher end cruise.. ..you miss out on the drunken kids, tatoos, and multiple body piecings and you get old people falling asleep during the fabulous evening shows. No worry about overbooked excursions since what you are looking to do, all the 70 year olds don't care to do. The food and service are first rate, Simon Weir the cruise director is awesome as are the large cast shows. We never made it to the midnight buffet, not only because the evening meals were always terrific, but we went on a shore excursion every port of call and had a blast. Thumbs up for the Celebrity Summit! It doesn't matter that the amount of kids on the cruise is limited, how many more than 130 or so kids can your kids interact with.. .. ..besides you are going to be so busy as a family unit it won't matter.
As for excursions, the lumberjack show was great, your boys will love it, don't be fooled by its reasonable price! Also the train ride (I think in Ketchikan) up to Canada, then bus it down with a stop in Liarsville was a great family excursion. We went whale watching in Icy Straits, but not much else to do there anyways. Did the crabbing excursion (forgot what city) and the lunch of crab was the best we have ever had, pricey though, but would still do it again. Make sure the day you are cruising the Hubbard Glacier that you take the camera and video as the ice calves into the surrounding water with its big bang.. ..watching the large chunks of ice in the Alaskan waters is a hoot.. .. ..makes you think of the Titanic. Celebrity did a great job on this cruise, I would reward it a 9.5 out of 10. I heard from others on competing cruiselines that the Summit was the premier cruise because of its service and food and I tend to agree too.
