Globus European Scenic Delight

Postby jojo » Mon Jan 16, 2006 10:09 pm

We enjoyed our trip very much. Everything was better than we expected. We were on a bus with very nice people traveling approximately 2000 miles in total. This was fine because you could cat nap when you wanted and sight see too. We did most of the optional tours, and were glad that we had (2) nights in each in most of the hotels. Our favorite areas was Austria, Southern Germany and Switzerland ( the mountains and passes). . Globus handled our bags on and off the bus and in and out of the hotel. Globus also arranged for our meals and tours so we had little to plan or worry about. They always posted the next days itenerary in the lobby so you knew what was happening each day. We felt close to the people we traveled with and made many friends, took many pictures and videos, and have memories that are priceless. The food and hotels were good. You even get used to paying to use the toilet in public areas. Enjoy your trip.

I am glad to hear you enjoyed the trip, we are going May 21st - June 4th. In the fall of 2004 we took the Globus Best of France & Italy tour and really enjoyed it.
Which optionals were offered, which did you take & which do you recommend?
Was the Louvre optional offered in Paris?
In Amsterdam were any museum tours included? Did you have time to do them on your own?
What were prices like (for shopping)? Any bargains/souveniers to look for?
How long was the Rhine cruise and what did you see? was it good?
Was the Lion King optional offered in London? Did you go?
Were the hotels centrally located, could you walk to places or did you take taxi or public transportation?

I look forward to hearing more details about your trip.
Thanks.

As you probably know, around 4-6 weeks before you travel, Globus will send you information about possible optional tours. Your tour guide will pick some of the optional tours and make them available (not all optional tours are available). In Paris we saw the Louvre on our own while others pick an optional tour of Versailles. In Amsterdam, there is a tour of the Riksmuseum. The Rhine cruse was fun and a different pace lasting around (2) hours and went by small river towns and castles. You could get drinks and light meals on board. We never went to the Lion King in England, but it was available. Transportation that we took was normally public. In Amsterdam, we took a Tram, in London we used a all day Bus pass, in Paris we used the subway. We also do plenty of walking. Most of the time our hotel was not very close to where we wanted to go. However, in Lucern our hotel was in walking distance to the shopping areas. I don't know if you would say that there was any bargains in Europe, but you will have the opportunity to buy swiss army knives, Dutch diamons, Austrian crystal, Venician glass, Swiss/German clocks. Optional tours that we took were: Volendam and Dutch Dinner (very good) including windmills, Venetian night our (dinner and night sight seeing (good), Gondola serenade (very good),Mount Pilatus in Lucern very good (web sight www.pilatus.com)Swiss Folklore Party (good), Country dinner (Bavaria (so so), Paris dinner and Illumination Drive (very good), La Nouvelle Eve (Paris cabaret- good), Buckingham Palace (good), Taste of London cruise (dinner and cruise) (very good). . Food that we bought was probably twice what it would cost in the states. Bring clthes that you can wear in layers. We went in early September. It was warm in Amsterdam, parts of Germany, Paris and Venice. At higher altitudes (mountains) and England were cool. Hope this helps and have fun.
