First time Europe! Continental Odyssey

First time Europe! Continental Odyssey

Postby phoebegirl » Tue Dec 05, 2006 9:55 am

Hi, all. Has anyone done the Continental Odyssey with Globus? I am planning on travelling in July. I've never been to Europe so this tour looked like a good way to see the countries without the fast pace.

Any advice for a new traveller?

Continental Odyssey

I just checked the itinerary for this tour and it is very FAST paced! We took the Thames to the Tiber Tour in September and it was great. Although it didn't go to as many cities (It did most of them), we had 3 nights in the major cities..London, Paris, Rome. When you only have one night, you don't get a feel for the culture of the city and getting up at 5:30am everyday is not fun! We got to London early and even spending 6 nights there, we didn't see everything we wanted! Just throwing this out there for what it is worth!

I agree that at least 2 nights every place ia perfect. The first trip I took with Globus we had many cities that we only stayed 1 night and I would never do it again. Two nights each place is fine. You can always do what I have done and go back to the places you want to spend more time in. I absolutely MUST get back to Venice. What a magical city!!!

Yes, Venice was wonderful, just too many tourists! My next trip would have to be April or October, understand the crowds are down at those times. We only stayed one night in one city and that was Florence.. ..hardly remember it at all since it was really just about a 24 hour stay!

When in Venice in 2005 on the Scenic Delight tour we ran into a group on the canal boats from Globus that were on the Thames to the Tiber tour. They were all having a great time. The Scenic Delight tour was also a nice pace, not to fast.We also only had 1 night that we only were there for a short time, probably only about 14 hours!.Someplace in Austria,it was a blur but also could have been from the party at the pub!!!!Had a great time and our TD said we out partied the Germans. Apparently quite a feat.LOL!!

In 2003 we toured with Globus to England,Ireland,Scotland and Wales at a lightening pace. Only 1 night in several places. I would never do that again! Been back to London 3 times now last time in June for 6 dayswith DH on our own. I had great fum doing all the planning..I think I have finally seen most of London but still have not had time to see the mueseums.Maybe someday DH and I will take a winter trip to London just to see the wonderful inside stuff. Also plan on returning to Italy and France on our own next time.

I believe of all the cities we went to, London had the most to offer. We were there for 6 nights and still didn't see everything, but then I think we wasted time doing things that we shouldn't have such as touring the Aquarium and the Zoo. Had heard they were suppose to be great, but really were not worth the time! Would like to go back there sometime!

The only drawback of having more time in each city is that less meals are provided. It turns out to be a combined "led tour" and a "plan your own itinerary", but I would much rather tour museums, castles, etc on my own rather than in a group. Tour guides tend to go on and on about things I'm not interested in but you can't leave the group!

Sure you can lead the group as long as you tell the TD you are leaving. I have done it as did others on some of the tours I was on. They don't care as long as you don't keep the group waiting and get back to the coach on time.
