The Sheraton resorts in Hawaii are outstanding except for the one at Waikaiki. It needs updating.

We had a really great tour director by the name of

Postby joeb » Fri Jul 27, 2007 12:45 pm

Nicholas. He was funny and witty and knowledgeable. I give him 5 stars out of a possible 5 stars. We were all so pleased with him on our Grand Tour of Italy and Sicily. He was super organized and made everything run smoothly.
If there were other message boards to critique Globus tours I would go there and post some glowing positives about Nicholas and Loborio our bus driver. They were both outstanding. Thanks Nicholas and Loborio. You were both just great.

joeb, this thread is about the Grand Hawaii tour. Your posting should go on an Italy thread. Or create your own.

what your problem was with your tour director in Italy. So others can avoid him or her.

She was plain obnoxious. It was her last tour of the year. On the second last day of the tour she stood in the front of the coach and told us that a tip less than 4 Euros per person per day would be insulting to her. On the Isle of Capri, a female traveler fell in the hotel bathtub and cut open the forhead above the left eye. The woman's daughter had to accompany her mother for medical tratment. The tour Director was not involved with this and should have been. There was a second Globus tour bus following our itinery and our tour director spent more time yaking with the other tour director rather than being with us.

Tips and tour directors

Postby joeb » Fri Aug 10, 2007 7:05 am

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with that one tour director. I hope you reported your problems with her to Globus. I think they really want to know about any problems so they can correct them.
We were told the same thing about tips. Since we were more than happy with our tour director and driver I had no problem paying the tips as requested.
I believe they tell people about these tips because certain people from certain countries(they will remain nameless)do not tip. It is not part of the culture in their country. They also stiff the local guides when it comes to tips.

It is not good to stiff the tour director or local guides. They do a terrific job most of the time.

I would not take a "tour to Hawaii". . I would definitely go on my own.I prefer to travel on my own in locations where there is no language barrier. Much more fun for us and I really enjoy the planning. Also my next trip to Italy will not be on a tour but just DH and I in Venice,my favorite city in the world.I get pretty comfortable once I have been somewhere and than long to go back and just stay in one place!. .

This is a very good tour of Hawaii. Airfares to Hawaii are now coming down due to the lousy economy.

We probably will see more travel addys this year on this bulletin board. The tourist dollar this year will be somewhat limited and there will be more competition to get some of it.

Instead of taking the Hawaii Tours "Grand Circle Island Tour" for $55.00 per person, you can take a city bus around the island for $2.00 per person.
