London Pass

London Pass

Postby Guest » Sun May 22, 2005 9:58 am

Hi, I will be in London for 3 days and will have 1 or 2 free days. Is it worth it to buy a pass ? We will have several options included in our Thames to the Tiber tour. Also for anyone who has done them, I am interested in doing either the Bath tour or the Stonehenge tour which my granddaughter seems very interested in doing. Which is the most interesting historically? Thanks.

I believe that you can find a locl tour co.(London based) that will include Stonehenge with Bath tour. There were quite a few on the web when we went, they were mostly full day tours and some included other sites along the way for a decent rate. Check under local tours and get what you want instead of just 1 choice!

We went on the Stonehedge/Bath tour and I found it to be the MOST touristy trip. You couldn't get close to the stones and it was mobbed. Bath was pretty but the Roman Baths were sort of disgusting (dirty and they smelled). . We also went on a LONG all day tour of London that was fabulous. The Tower is definitely worth it and so is Westminister Abbey. This was definitely the most historical and it moved so we weren't bored. Your hotel should have a stand that offers all kinds of tours. Good luck. We are going to Scotland in August but starting out in London. We are going to Hampton Court (of Henry the VIII fame). . It is suppose to be great.

I agree with you that Bath was (appeared) dirty, but Stonehenge was not crowded when we where there (lucky timing I guess) yet both places are worth the visit (IMHO). . We did spend 2 hours at Hampton Court and the gardens were Beautiful of course the Kew Gardens are INCREDIBLE, but that is another trip in itself (need lots of time to enjoy ALL of Kew Gardens). . As for an ALL Day tour of London, I am in 100% Agreement in that it IS WORTH IT! I could spend a week in London and still not feel it was enough time! If I had to choose between a road trip (Stonehenge/Bath) and spending the day in London, I would choose LONDON, but that is just my personal choice (when my Wife lets me have a choice.. ..lol). . Just my opinion, but if you have to choose between a road trip and London, choose London as you will see More - travel less - pay less - and have the hotel just minutes away if you want to rest!

A lot of companies in London offer Stonehenge and Bath tours:

Evan Evans
Premium Tours
Golden Tours (Grayline)
Astral Travels
The Backpacker Company

Just to name a few. I've heard good things about all of them.

London

I don't know if you have done your London trip yet or not. We did the Bath/Stonehenge tour from a tour company we learned about from the stands at the hotel.. ..you know the stands that have all the brochures? We were on a Trafalgar Tour, and blew off a free day to go to Bath/Stonehenge. Although I'm glad I went, I would have preferred to spend more time in London. We wound up going to London again the following year for New Year's and focused on London alone.
Bath and Stonehenge are "must sees" when you have the time to spend. If you only have 2 days of free time, you may want to explore London more in depth. There is so much to see in so little time.
Might I make a suggestion. The train (tube) is so easy to take that one can navigate London on their own. The main attractions were a short walk from the train stations, and we felt that the lines were as long on our own as it was with our group. By the time our guide rounded up the group, a significant amount of time had passed and we felt rushed through many of the attractions.
You can purchase a train pass through your travel agent. Once you receive the pass, you cash it in at a multitude of stations (it is indicated on the pass. We cashed our pass in at Piccadily Station) and you have a pass that you can use for the 2 days. It is well worth it. Being from San Diego where we have very limited public transportation, I was surprised at how easy the system was for me to navigate.
Happy Voyages. London remains one of my favorite cities. I hope you have a great time! 8)
