looking for personal wedding stories

looking for personal wedding stories

Postby beach-lovin' bride » Tue May 17, 2005 1:29 am

Hey all-
My fiance and I are planning our beach wedding and are seriously considering a few Sandles resorts -- maybe Ocho Rios, Montego Bay or a resort in St Lucia. I'd love to hear any stories from people who actually went through with the beach wedding -- good & bad. I want to plan a flawless trip not just for us, but for our family as well. Thanks.

This is not my personal wedding story, but I attended a wedding in March at SGOR. Loved it, loved it, loved it. My friend was fully intending on doing a beach wedding on the beach, but when she went through the orientation with the wedding planner, she realized that your spot is right in the middle of everything. So all beach goers are also watching your ceremony. They really don't set it away from everything to make it private. So if your wanting a private wedding, you won't get it. If it doesn't bother you, then great. My friend instead, chose the wedding under the gazebo up on the hill with the ocean as her backround. It's surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers. It's awesome! It's extremely private, which she really liked. Trust me, if you like privacy, choose this option..you won't be dissapointed. They really go all out for you. You must do the reception afterwards and the dinner in the evening. I have never ate such great food in all of my life.
I have heard others from this board complain about the amount of weddings that are done at Sandals and how it is a in and out thing. But what I don't understand is, what do you expect? Do you think you are the only and only couple wanting to get married at Sandals?
I think it was great and would recommended it to anyone.
Good luck with your wedding and best wishes.

sor wedding

Postby tkick » Thu May 26, 2005 11:59 am

tried posting a message earlier. my friend got married at SOR and i was very impressed with the coordination of everything. From the time they got there until they left, no complaints. The wedding day went smooth. After the ceremony, we proceeded to the reception and after that pictures through out the resort. they also had the ceremony video taped. i highly recommended SOR.

the wedding was held on the pier but they will work with you on what type of wedding you want to have. also, they arranged for the bride and groom to have a wedding dinner (i mean everything is included anyway) but something really nice set up just for bride and groom. SOR is very beautiful as i am sure montego bay and saint lucia.

Thanks for the input. We've decided to have our wedding and family at SGOR and then my fiance and I will probably head to Sandals Negril for the rest of our honeymoon. Will probably book a room in the Riviera bldg at SGOR and a honeymoon beachfront room at SN. Any advice about either resort? How 'bout the weather in early June?? Also, how's the scuba-diving?? -- I'm a novice diver, but my fiance is more experienced. Thanks for your help.

SOR resort

Postby tkick » Mon Jun 13, 2005 11:27 am

SOR was excellent with the water sports. i didn't partake of any diving but did snorkle, sail, etc. SOR is very beautiful. Again, I enjoyed the Riviera Side of the Resort. The water sports and beach were closer to that side. I heard Negril was nice and more intimate. When we checked in at SOR they gave us a pass that would allow us access to any Sandals Resort we visited during our stay. We didn't take advantage because of the time and all but next time will do so. Not sure of the weather in June. We went the end of april, early May. If you want, go www.weather.com and click on Ocho Rios. I studied the forcast weeks before we left just to get an idea of what to look forward to.

While at Sandals Dunns River, we became friends with two couples getting married there and went to their weddings. They were very happy with SDR and the wedding pictures were beautiful.

We were married at Sandals Montego Bay in a gazebo over the ocean. It was beautiful, but the wind did kick in a few times, and they had to dub music into the video twice. I do recommend the video (dvd) and also some photos with negatives. You can then copy the DVD for others and can get extra pics at home w/ the negatives.

The minister that married us now only does weddings at SRC. He was great. He even counseled us before the ceremony. I wish I'd have had those words on the video.

Wedding in St. Lucia

Postby krencc1 » Mon Jan 16, 2006 9:34 am

Hello, I got married at the Sandals Regency in St. Lucia in 1998 and five years later renewed my vows at the Sandals Grande St. Lucian. Obviously I love St. Lucia. My husband and have been to Sandals/Beaches Resorts 11 times over the last 7 years. I have been to many different Sandals resorts and love almost all of them. I have seen weddings in Bahamas, St. Lucia and Jamaica and I love weddings at St. Lucia the best, although I may be partial considering mine was in St. Lucia. St. Lucia I feel has the most differential foliage and colors and landscape. However, if you decide to get married in Jamaica, I would only choose Whitehouse. This is their newest (biggest) resort and it’s beautiful. I wouldn’t suggest Montego Bay or Ochos Rios for your wedding, but again that is my opinion. Also, don’t forget about the Beaches resorts owned by Sandals. If you are getting married and you want family to attend (like nieces and nephews) then Beaches is great. If you do chose Beaches Resorts chose a month where kids are in school (April, May ) and you won’t see many kids. Beaches Turks and Caicos is great! and I have seen many weddings here. However, if it is just you and your finance, I would go with St. Lucia.
