Globus Restriction for carry-on luggage???

Globus Restriction for carry-on luggage???

Postby Lin1 » Fri May 13, 2005 9:44 pm

Hello,
What is the Globus' size limitation for the tour bus carry-on? I've heard that they restrict you to a very small piece. Does anyone know what the max. permissible size is??? and do they strickly enforce the size limitation??? I realize that the tour buses in Europe do not have much overhead space . . . . . . but I have no problem keeping it on the floor with me feet resting on top of it. Would that be a problem? Thanks for any insight you may offer!

The booklet says 17x14x8.

I think they were a bit loose about the maximum but would be afraid to tempt it much. As the trip went on, some of the people accumulated purchases that they also carried on.

I do know that when I measured our new suitcase (not the carryon), it was so close that I was iffy on whether, if they included the handle if it would make it or be a quarter or half inch over. I called our travel agent and she said not to worry about it.

The main thing that was enforced on my trip to Italy was no carry-on luggage with wheels on the bus. There is no room under the seats or in the overheads. The overheads are much smaller than airplanes. A purse, small backpack, and other small bags with shopping items purchased during the day are fine, but larger items definitely won't fit upstairs on the bus. The tour did enforce the 1 large suitcase per person rule. The price of the tour includes baggage handling for one piece per person. Any extra bag (that a bellboy would collect from outside guest hotel rooms) has a daily fee.

I carried on a small backpack with water, sunscreen, maps, etc.. .. . all things that if stolen it wouldn't matter at all. My valuables (passport, credit card, cash, etc.. .. .) I had in a small pack worn around my neck on a string under my clothing. We didn't really have as much pickpocketing problems as I anticipated, but everyone was very aware and took the proper precautions.

By the way, we had a FABULOUS time on the Globus tour and I'd highly recommend it. Everything was taken care of and my husband and I enjoyed an unforgettable low-stress visit to Italy. Have a great time!
