Thames to the Tiber!

Thames to the Tiber!

Hi. :D My granddaughter and I are taking this tour on June 2nd. Is anyone else taking it? How much extra $$ should we allocate for meals other than the ones that come with the tour? I have read where some of the dinners can be 75 euros each! That seems high to me. Do Europeans make such salaries that they can afford these prices? Or are these tourist prices? Does anyone know? We are getting very excited! Granddaughter is 22 and I am 66 years of age. I am a hiker who does about 8 miles a week and she is young so we should be compatible. LOL!!

Have a wonderful time. We went on that tour last year and really enjoyed it. Be sure and take a jacket. We needed one most days in London and Paris and we didn't go until mid-June.

As far as the prices go, if you go on the optional dinners, you'll be paying prices similar to that. Usually they do also include some sort of entertainment or sightseeing.

However just for regular meals in restaurants on your own, I can't imagine paying that much. I dug out my notes from our trip. (I posted a long note with more details earlier today and it didn't post.) For meals in regular restaurants, the three of us paid around $25 Euros total. We didn't go to fancy restaurants but they weren't all McDonalds either. We tended to buy cheaper entrees and forego costly beverages. Soft drinks really do cost about three bucks over there so you can save a lot of money by skipping those.

Possibly someone could pay 75 Euros each at a REALLY nice restaurant somewhere but you wouldn't be doing that all the time.

If you do plan to go on many or most of the optionals, do allow in your budgeting for that. They really add up. One couple on our tour said that they totalled theirs near the end and it was about enough to pay for an extra person to go on the tour.

You should be getting a booklet before the trip that gives prices of the optionals. Not all are offered but it will give you an idea of prices.

We did a lot of things on our own but a lot of the group went on almost all that were offered.

Just a head's up - If you are interested in the folklore show or the trip to Pilates in Lucerne, they are difficult to do on your own. The folklore show was sold out by tour groups and transportation to the other trip was difficult.
