I flew with them to do the Splenders of Italy tour and had so many problems including no luggage for the whole entire trip.
I will never fly with them ever again.
I can't even tell you all the things they did wrong it would take more space then we have here.
I also missed flights because of delays caused by them.

Flew with Alitalia once before from Brussels to Rome and didnt enjoy it one little bit. Should be re-named the "who gives a sh** airline". . Would never willingly book with them again.

i've only used alitalia once (to milan and back) and didn't have a single problem with the service, schedule and food (yes, the food was good or maybel i was just hungry!). . but then again this was several years ago and from what i've read maybe the airline is not doing so well. but then again again i'm sure all airlines have lost someone's luggage or been late or have had unhelpful flight attendants. i just wish you luck! i'm sure all will be fine, though!

Ailtalia

I just booked my air from Cincinnati using Delta who is a partner with Ailtalia.. ..I am only flying them from JFK, New York, to Rome, FCO. I hope everything goes well..it seems like a 50-50chance.

For those who had poor service can you please go in more detail, I am very curious.. ..did you fly the entire trip on them or just part of the leg?

We fly Alitalia frequently inside Europe - my only problem has been the constant threat of cancelled flights due to on and off bankruptsy problems, although the Italian government usually comes through. Don't worry, it will go fine - enjoy!

Globus using Alitalia Airlines

We were put on an Alitalia airline for our trip from Brussels to Rome after the Brussels airline took off without us. I ask for 1st class for the inconvenience and all 5 of us were booked 1st class! We were 2 hrs late into Rome but we enjoyed the 1st class services. The experience was good, can't complain.

alitalia for globus tour

Postby Globus traveler » Mon Jul 25, 2005 3:55 pm

Our Globus tour of Italy was wonderful. However, we booked an Alitalia flight to Rome from NYC. Alitalia lost our luggage and seemed to be indifferent and incompetent on the ground vs. in the air. Because we insured the trip, the insurance company -- not Alitalia -- located our luggage still in NYC and had it sent on the airplane the next day to Rome. Our hotel info. was stamped and documented on the luggage itself. When the luggage arrived in Rome, Alitalia made the decision to have the luggage sent to our next destination which was in Montecatini. They were not cooperative and non apologetic. We spent 78 hours of our trip without anything except a small token travel bag from Alitalia. I will never fly with that airline again. Their customer service is simply non-existent. I am convinced that without the protection of the insurance company, our luggage would never have arrived in Italy because Alitalia is that negligent.

I arrived on Thursday, the luggage made it on Friday. Took two hours to fill out a lost luggage report at FCO.

I flew Alitalia from Newark to Rome (and back). . The flight was smooth and my luggage was not lost. However, I would think twice before booking with them again:
-it was very uncomfortably warm on the plane both ways (others on the flight felt the same way);
-the food was the worse airline food I had ever experienced (I carried on sandwiches and snacks for the return flight so that I would have something edible);
-the seats were very unconfortable and if you fly economy-you will feel like a sardine; if the person sitting in front of you reclines their seat, the back of their seat will be in your your knees.
-the flight attendents served the meal and then you didn't see them again for literally hours. There were no "call buttons" if you needed something. At one point, I desperately needed some water because of the uncomfortable heat on the plane. I walked the length of the plane without a flight attendent in sight. I finally found them behind a curtain in the very back of the plane socializing. When asked if I could have some water, they pointed to a bottle and cups and said I could help myself. They never moved.
-There is a small individual screen in front of each person and a variety of movies and music from which to choose. You utilize headphones to access the computerized program. I was very pleased about this, thinking that I could enjoy a couple of movies to help pass the time on the eight hour flight. WRONG! The computerized program in front of my seat was broken, the one in front of my husband was broken too. (Several others also experienced the same problem.) When we asked the flight attendent about the problem, she shrugged her shoulders and said that she couldn't do anything about it but would "report it". . We had nothing to watch for 8 hours.
I could go on and on.. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. . If given a choice, I would definitely book with another airline.

[quote="Barb"]If anyone has booked a Globus vacation and been put on Alitalia airlines please reply as to whether the air transportation is as bad as the reviews I have read on the internet. The vacation that I want.. ..Vienna, Budapest, Prague.. ..I am told that is the only (discounted) airlines for that date. I have doubts about traveling on Alitalia.

I went on that Globus trip in June on Alitalia and I advise you to go on any airline but Alitalia! They are the worst airline I've ever been on, you fly into Milan, go down steps to the tarmac, get on buses to be bused to a terminal where you go through security again, then get on another bus to your connecting flight. Plus we were 2 hours late arriving in Milan from JFK so missed connecting flight. It was a nightmare. Personnel are rude and overworked and disorganized. The trip is wonderful (except the Hilton Hotel in Prague is quite a distance frm the center of town where everything is, it's a long walk and in the middle of a very very busy huge intersection.) No place to eat except the hotel and a coke is $4, burger $20. I would make my own hotel res. in Prague at Intercontinental or Presidente which is right where you want to be and get a credit from Globus. Except for that, everything else was wonderful. But fly on any airline except Alitalia (they broke a wheel off my suitcase and refused to do anything about it, no apology, nothing). .
