Rome Optionals vs being on our own against pickpockets!

Rome Optionals vs being on our own against pickpockets!

Postby jcrh » Sun Apr 24, 2005 3:38 pm

We aren't doing most Optionals as we feel we can navigate London and Paris on our own and do so safely. However, after doing much research online, and through Guide Books, it seems that Rome may be a challenge if we strike out on our own. Our hotel is on the very edge of the city and not handy to town center, thus public transportation is a must.

Has anyone taken one of the Optionals for Rome that includes a dinner. Price seems very high to us?

do the optionals

When I went, I did the two optionals that were offered. I did the "Orientation Drive and Roman Dinner" and the "Ctacoms". . I am very glad that I did both. The price was worth it and I would not want to try to do this on my own
Looking forward to making new friends in my travel

The only optionals we took on our entire trip were two optionals in Rome. One was a nighttime orientation tour/dinner. The other was a farewell dinner and stop at the Trevi Fountain.

We did all the optional type things on our own in the other towns but were least comfortable with finding our way and feeling safe in Rome. Since we had to sign up for the optionals before getting to Rome, we signed up for both of those.

We did get around fine during the day and felt comfortable - but our hotel was within walking distance to a lot of things.

The optionals were indeed expensive but we did have a good time on them. The first night orientation tour included a lot of information and the dinner was fun. The farewell dinner was also fun and the entertainment (something with the word "tenors" in it) was very good.

GLOBUS EXCURSIONS

Postby cyborgrock » Wed Apr 27, 2005 8:17 am

I WOULD STRONGLY SUGGEST THE FOLLOWING:

1. TAKE EXCURSIONS FOR DINNER . ..NO WAITING AND FIXED PRICE.
2. USE A MONEY BELT AND NEVER CARRY A PURSE.
3. MEN SHOULD NEVER CARRY A WALLET BUT USE A MONEY BELT OR NECK BELT..10.00 AL KOHL'S

EUROPE IS VERY SAFE REGARDING MAJOR CRIMES BUT ONE MAY RUN INTO TROULBE REGARDING PICKPOCKETS. WE DIDN'T I MIGHT ADD. :D
