This depends on what you're looking to do. SMB has one of the biggest white sand beaches, but it is one of the oldesr hotels. But a lot of renovations have been done. Sept. willbe our 7th trip to smb.

tekeere,
We just returned from the Whitehouse resort and were looking to use our "free" days next year, around March. We were looking for a quiet resort with a private beach (age of the resort doesn't matter - spend most of the time at the beach/pool). .
I think I read at once that the airport is close to the Montego bay resort - therefore all you hear all day is planes over-head.
I also read somewhere that the beach at the Negril resort was not private.

Don't know much about the beach at Negril. Yes, you're five min. away from the airport. We're so use to it that it doesn't bother us at all. We wave to the planes and give your honey a kiss when they fly over. Things like this don't bother us. You'll just love the family at SMB, they're great. The swim up bar and pool isn't large but adequate. There's talk from Butch Stewart about putting in a new pool there in the near furture. They have done a lot of rennovations. Let me know if I can help further. Or you can always e-mail me.

I enjoyed the beach at SRB. They have a private island across the way. Sandals has a pool, bar, and restaurant on their island. It is nice. Unfortunately, it gets windy there quite often and the boats taking guests to the island don't go over there.

Hi dr.. .. ..welcome back to this group!

So many questions in this thread.. .. .. .. .. .. .. .

The beach at Negril is not private. While we stayed at SN or BN we were not bothered in any way by vendors. (If that is why you were asking.)

Sandals Whitehouse has one of the greatest beaches that I have ever been on and I have traveled a lot in the Caribbean. While the beach at SMB is nice, it cannot compare, in my opinion.

Outgoing planes do fly overhead at SMB. This does not bother me but, it does bother some people. Don't confuse the airport at MoBay with a busy airport in the US or Canada. The airport at SMB is not like an airport in Chicago or New York.

Hope some of this helps.
