fall vacation in italy

Postby barbarar11 » Wed Apr 20, 2005 1:03 am

Hello, We went to Rome and Venice 2 years ago and want to return to see Florence, Amalfi Coast, Tuscany, etc. We have 2 weeks and thought about going the last week in August. Can anyone suggest an itinerary and is it too crowded at this time. Is the weather okay. We took a side trip to Rome last time and had a base in Austria. This time we have to carry luggage . . Is car rental an option rather than the public transportation? Any or all help will be greatly appreciated. We thought we might get a "base" for 3-4 days and then take day trips. Any ideas? We are in our late 50's and are celebrating our 35th in August so we thought we would like to visit Italy and experience more of the country. We're both in good shape and loved Rome but there is so much to see in Italy. I don't want to waste time figuring out train schedules and would like to drive if possible. Any help would be great. Thanks, Barb

Hi Barbar,

In reply to your question of Italy in august.I personally would feel the
crowds would be a bit overwelming.I have traveled Italy, very early June,
before the kids are out of school, and in the begiining of October. I prefered
the October one better. The crowds both times were bareable.I think I liked
october travel in Italy better, because the weather was just perfect. A tiny
bit of rain, but a nice 70 to 82 range, with mild evenings. I am booked again
for October. looking so forward to Leisurely Tuscany and Rome with the
Sorrento extension. I just love Italy.I hope you will too.

HAPPY TRAVELS TO YOU AND YOURS

Italy in August

Take the advice of most tour guides in not from me. Don't go to Italy, for that matter France or Span either, in August. It is hot but that is not the problem. Most of Europe is on vacation in August. Because of this many places, family run businesses are closed, making that what is open over crowded in a place that is always crowded with tourists.
