We always found it best to use cards purchased in the area you plan to make the call from.

Check with your hotel for the cards and also for the overseas rates from your room phone you would be suprised how economical it can be at times to call from your hotel

Phone cards

I've had good luck with the cheap AT&T cards bought from SAMs or Walmart. You have dial a LOT of numbers to use them, but the connected price is about .15 per minute, and the hotels can't seem to get at it to add a surcharge.

I used phone cards from the countries that I was in and I had no problem in reaching Vancouver Canada from all places in Europe. The only one problem I had was in Rome, it was difficult to get an operator, but after around 30 minutes or so, I was successfyul. When I called home from Switerland, it was so quick and easy. The phone cards are cheap, and make nice keep sakes
Looking forward to making new friends in my travel
