Postby ally » Tue Mar 01, 2005 7:22 am

hi there travellers.. .. . anyone joining the june2nd continental tour from london?
i know its a long shot that id actually meet anyone before i went..but thought id ask anyway.. .. .
thanks to nursesue from canada..shes my kinda lady ! thorough ! learnt a lot from reading the exchanges she stimulated!

always hard to choose a company to travel with . .. .. . ive heard of cosmos but basically chose globus cos they were supposedly a little more upmarket and hotels supposedly more centrally located.. .

i have a few questions..silly ones but important to me.. .

do those suction cap washing lines actually work or are my sexy smalls gonna end up on the floor? ( inm talking sexy smalls not bloomers)

how much is the average cup of coffee in london and europe?. ..am i gonna get my caffeine fix or will i be broke by day two? is anyone gonna complain if i rub two sticks together and put the billy on in hyde park?
whats the nicest brand of coffee that i can buy in europe..im talking instant here . .. ..i drink nescafe here in oz.. .(.ok so my taste -)

anyone know of any good cheap restaurants in the piccadilly area?
i dont mind hospital food . ..just dont want to be an in-patient.. .. .

thanks to all who respond.. .. .( anyone? anyone?)

Coffee

Postby Jack » Fri Mar 04, 2005 9:05 pm

Hi Ally

I have taken a few trips to the British Isles and have found the coffee less than perfect. They seem to use a hot milk with coffee brew that does not make the mark. Hot water is readily availible so the instant you bring will work well.

The suction cuppy things do work. One you need to use them first at home to soften them and this will help make them more sticky. Don't try chin ups on the line and you undies should be ok. See if you can get out of the big cities, the country side is beautiful and each small town has a great local pub, where good food (great soup) and new friends await.

PS if it gets boring hang your suction cuppy things out side with the sexy undies and you will attract a crowd! Have a great trip.

Hi Ally,
If your choice is nescafe then most of the coffee's at breakfast will seem mild (lol), yet the ones in the rooms (when they had them) were stronger and closer to your flavor of choice. My wife is a big coffee drinker also and she was fine with most of the coffee's she had, but do tell them NO milk or your coffee will be "cream coffee". .
There are tons of resturants in Picadilly and most have their menus with prices out front or pop in for a quick look. You can get Fish & Chips for a few pounds or plenty of others in the 5 pound range. Im not sure that a Great meal for little cost will be found, but I always like the Fish & chips (you can get just fish or just chips if you like) because it soo English and my wife and I split an order while walking & people watching. I think the English version of Asian foods can be very good and a change from the Fried EVERYTHING at Breakfast that all the hotels serve, of course you being from Oz the food is more like your daily diet as opposed to American diet (Cheeseburges fries chocalate shakes lol). .
Have a Great time and fear not for at least one country you visit will have the coffee of your dreams.. ..Peace out!

thank u 'guests'. ..its great to get a response.. .. .

86 days til departure and im not counting.. ..oops just ticked down to 85.. .
isnt it LETHAL when u start to count days???!!

coffee is about 3 to 4 dollars here in aus.. ..in cafes that is.. ..i think everything has gone up really.. .

but everyone else ( foreign tourists ) seems to fare well.. . we aussies live well here but are to be pitied everywhere else but new zealand and asia when traveling.. .. .
so if u see a hangdog skeletal stranger u can bet itll be an australian on his 18th day of backpacking thru europe.. .. . pass him one of ur breadrolls under the table and he can make it stretch for three meals.. .. .( vegemite comes in small oneserving packs and i have several in stock )

cup of coffee will run you 2.5 to 5 euro's in europe! with no refills mind you!!! but it tastes good and ussually it comes in a proper cup and not paper!!!That said, everything is a bit more expensive!!! my advise is always the same, don't worry too much about it and try to avoid converting the currency for little things while on tour(big things you kind of have to). .. .. ..if i converted i would be having a heart attack the entire time i'm on vacation! have a great trip!!

coffee

Postby nursesue » Mon Mar 14, 2005 2:04 am

Okay, I love coffee and an not funtion with out it. I was only in London for 2 days, but it is very very expensive. The first day I got there I had major jet lag and needed coffe and food bdly. I went for a walk and found an average clean little pub/resturant. I had a burger ands a salad , coffee and a water. Well, it was close to 20.00 us.. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..but, like some one else mentioned, do not worry about the cosdt and trying to convert money to what you would pay at home - it will drive you crazy. Just enjoy!
Looking forward to making new friends in my travel

Coffee

Postby Mike50 » Fri Mar 18, 2005 9:22 am

I am not sure where the rest of the folks who replied to your questions got their coffee but after having spent 6 weeks in the UK know you can get good coffee. If you want it cheap go to the golden arches. Most places in the UK give you coffee from a French press you get milk if you ask, just like here. Tea is just the same. You can have white tea or not.

As for food I don't think you can get cheap food any place in Europe. At least not at the prices you can get it for in the states.
