Never been on a Globus tour or Traveled to Europe

Never been on a Globus tour or Traveled to Europe

Postby debgirl » Tue Feb 08, 2005 1:16 pm

When I sent my message I should have said Help!!!!!!!!! Never been to Europe and never on A Globus tour. I am just cutting back my hours at work (nurse in the ED) and wanted to see Europe. I tried to plan a trip myself :( and have failed thus far. Can anyone give me any information on the 28 day Europe in Depth trip---or any Globus trip for that matter! Spending a lot of money on this tour, but don't know if I'll ever have the opportunity to do this again. :P

if you want a whirlwind tour of many places the 28-day one seems appropraite. yet i've talked to a few people who went on one and some said that the pace was too hectic at times. they didn't have time to savor the different countries properly because they just received a brief and fast introduction. but i think if you're up to the pace and really are concerned about getting it all in and not having the chance to go again, then go for it.
personally, i go on in-depth one or two-country tours because i want to really try to experience a specific culture and region. the last one i went on was spain and it was truly awesome. we went on a two-week tour all around the country and i feel that i experienced a lot of the culture and history. i can't wait to return there and go to my favorite cities.
hope this has been somewhat helpful.

Thanks a lot for the information. I think your right! Do you know anything about the Spain At Leisure? I am thinking of booking that and then add a Paris and London tour. I could take the night train from Madrid to Paris when I finish the Spain tour and hook up with the Paris tour then go from Paris to London on another train. I think this would work because the Paris and London tours start daily. What do you think?

Tours are hard work

Just remember that on most tours you are moving a lot, and on the go. After an 18 day tour of Europe I needed a vacation. If I were doing what you are, I'd leave myself a couple of extra days in Madrid, London and Paris so you can do what you want to, if only sitting down and people watching.

Tours are a great way to get started, and I'm sure you will have a good time.

Walt is right about being on the Go and lots of walking, keep in mind there is usually a 1-3 hour drive between stops which allows you to rest and view the landscape (or sleep like many do).On our month long tour we had no problem with the amount of walking and constantly being on the Go. Take Walt's advice and give yourself a few days of restful vacation days (I like London myself) because after our tour we were EXHAUSTED in a great way, but not ready to go back to work without some solid RESTFUL Days.

We did From the Thames to the Tiber and felt that it was a good choice. It was just over two weeks and included London, Paris, Lucerne (Switzerland), Venice, Florence, Pisa (a quick stop) and Rome.

I tried to plan a trip on my own to begin with and got overwhelmed with all the choices to be made. I was to the point of just going to London and Paris to simplify things.

I'm really glad that we went for the tour since, as a first trip to Europe, I wouldn't have had the nerve to try Italy on my own. We really saw most of the things that we REALLY wanted to see in Europe. Of course, there is always more to see. (G)

Now that we've been there, I'd feel more comfortable going back and going on my own.

globus tour Spain @Leisure

Postby debgirl » Mon Feb 21, 2005 2:37 pm

Took your advice: Here's what I did: I booked a week tour to London and Paris. I leave for London on April 26th--take that tour which leaves me in Paris. The next day we are taking the train from Paris to Madrid, Spain. We have a day inbetween our Spain @Leisure tour, and a day in Madrid before we fly back to the US. The next thing is to find a hotel to spend the night in Madrid. The hotel (Madrid Intercontinental castellana) that we are staying in with the tour is a little expensive. Anyone have any ideas on a hotel close to the Intercontinental castellana we can spend the night in? (We will be coming into the city via train into the chamartin station)
I have booked with the Best Western Barajas near the airport on the way back from Malaga because it offered free shuttle and full breakfast for $98 Euro which seemed pritty good!
