I will try to explain it to you as I am one of the passengers who has met someone on HAL and attempted to continue the romance after the vacation. On the ship, I am on vacation. There are none of the day to day pressures and responsibilities I have at home. You can contribute all your time and energy on the "relationship" there. However, once I return home to the everyday problems, responsibilities, etc., there is little time to commit to a long distance relationship. My romance was also with crew of a different nationality which brings all new problems.. ..ie immigration and him coming to visit and/or work in the US. We remain great friends today, but it just didn't work. Also, on the ship, you were in your element and are a different person than on land. What I mean by that is the crew are very confident and take control on the ship. You can do everything to show the woman a good time. You know the ports and where to go. When my friend was off the ship and at my home, it was totally different because now I am the one in control and having to take charge. Rather than a man to protect me and watch over me, I suddenly felt like the adult or the one who had to handle everything. I hope this makes sense. I was actually on the Rotterdam in October 2002 when I met this guy so you may know him.
you're absolutely correct, but, i actualy had a couple of decent relationships off the ship and living with her for quite awhile and unfortunately couldn't continue the relationship for some reasons.. .. . but, knowing so many great american people onboard the ship was priceless, by the way, i might know the guy you mentioned, since i was a very socialize person on the ship and this went even further beyond the crews themself and that was how i met and got close with many pax and that also made me feel so happy and enjoyed my time on the ship eventhough the work was so very hard, 12-14 hrs a day, if i just work and work only, i must've been died right now.
