Ok, my fiancee and I are about to book a honeymoon at Sandals Regency St. Lucia. We plan on booking the 2 story 1 bedroom villa with private plunge pool (best room they got!) This as you all know is not going to be cheap. We are gonna stay for 6 nights. In shopping for prices on plane tickets to St. Lucia, I got an idea. What do you guys think about this.. .. .. .. .. .(just so you know, I don't know a ton about frequent flyer miles.. .)

ok, I'm thinking if we open a credit card that gives you points for miles on airfare, couldn't we just charge the cost of the Sandals stay on the card (a damn good chunk of change) and wind up getting free airline tickets with the points we earn?? If anybody has any info that would help, please post.

You won't get enough points to get free tickets by charging your Sandals stay.

I think it's more like 20,000 points before you get close to one ticket. It's pretty crazy stuff. You can certainly check with whatever card you're looking into. Somewhere, they usually have a list of the things you can redeem your points for and how many points you need for each.

yeah I have friends that travel frequently to Puerto Rico (they have a home there) and I'm pretty sure they told me they get like one free trip a year, but that's taking into account that they fly to Puerto Rico (from Buffalo, NY) several times a year AND they buy EVERYTHING on their credit card that gives them airline miles. AND if memory serves me correctly they told me they put 18 or 19 thousand dollars on that card every year.

So.. .. .. . *shrug* . .. .. . there you have it.

At one point per dollar--two round trips to Jamaica, on the card that I use, would be $70,000US.

I have a skymiles credit card and it takes forever to get free airfare, it's a good 20 grand before you get a free ticket.. ..so I usually redeem for eletronic devices, which you also can use the credit for.

Why not charge your whole wedding on your card, that way you'll earn miles quicker
