I agree, the only perks my wife and I received was a small bag of soap / body lotion and a "sorry, no openings for dinner this week " for any of the places we really wanted to eat. We were at SMB mid Oct 2004. Long wait to check in, but they were VERY FAST to check us out! Booking the Pres Suite was to come with a personal car that took you too and from the airport- they were late picking us up by 1/2 hr each time.
Interesting thing happened, I read that if you are offered drugs by any employee of SMB and can ID them to staff, you will receive a free day at SMB, well I was approached once by someone picking up cups on the beach but he made sure to have his name tag removed. Come on! Your hit with these offers everytime you walk near the beach by peddlers and did not want it from the staff. Also, I think that more people would use the many piers that jet out into the ocean (great views at night) if these peddlers selling drugs were not allowed to dock their boats right next to them.
Don't worry about the planes flying overhead, they are only there for a few seconds. Being 5 min from the airport is a big advantage upon leaving!!!
Water sports were great, food.. .. ..OK, room kept very clean, Art auction..you can pick up some great deals..if you are able to buy a painting and take it with you that night, you can have it FEDX back home for around $30!!
This was our 2nd trip to Jamaica in two yrs and first time at a Sandals. I would rate SMB a 6 out of 10. Oh watch out for the slots changer, she tried to pay us our winnings in Jamaica dollers when we used American $$ to play. She tried to give us $100 JA when it should have been $100 US. 1 US dollar is equal to $59 JA.
