Hi, Letsgo. We did not do northern Ireland on our trip. We flew into Shannon, stayed in Galway for the first night and then made our way south around the Ring of Kerry and eventually to Dublin, our last city before flying to London. Yes, the roads are daunting at first, but you'll get used to them. The roundabouts were a little tricky and we sometimes went around several times before we figured out where to turn. I am sure we were quite a sight to locals!

We did, though, rent an automatic car since neither of us felt proficient enough to drive a stick shift. We were there 8 days but we spent two nights in Dublin. Although the distances are short, the roads are two lane and it took double the time we estimated to get from place to place. Of course, we stopped at every interesting little town along the way and got lost fairly often. Once, we ended up in a sheep pasture! Luckily, there was a little old lady tending the sheep who directed us back to the road. But, this is the fun of driving! We loved our driving vacation through Ireland and I know you will too. The people were wonderful and very helpful. Since we stayed in small towns, we were usually the attraction in the pubs where we stopped for a little nip after dinner! As far as Scotland is concerned, I don't have any first hand knowlege about B&Bs since we were on a tour, but I would bet that the same is available. Have fun driving on the "other" side of the road!
