Travelling to Paris from Midlands (UK)

Postby Guest » Thu Nov 04, 2004 1:55 pm

Hi,

I live in the Midlands in the UK and am planning to go to Paris by train. I rarely use the train normally and would greatly appreciate some advice. How would I book a trip like this? How long would it take? Anything else I need to bare in mind?

Thanks,

Rail to Europe

HCIRLU: I don't know what you would like advise on. Eurostar is like most other rail service. I do know, you might want to bone up on your French a bit. Find out how much your taxi will cost from Nord to your hotel. I've found Paris Taxi drivers are not like those in the U.K. Get ready to be ripped-off at any chance they will get. I spent all summer practicing my French, found out the cost from the rail station to my hotel, even checked at the info booth what the cost should be in the station. When I stepped outside into the taxi cue, in my best French, told the driver where to go. He acted like he didn’t understand my French, Tried to grab my bags, but I refused until he confirmed the cost. After everyone had left and he was the only taxi and upset with me we got in. Believe it or not he started speaking English half way into the trip and ended up charging us a third more than he should. I got upset paid and gave no tip.
