NORTHERN MOROCCO

NORTHERN MOROCCO

Postby Dottie » Mon Sep 06, 2004 1:18 am

I' m considering a trip to Morocco, including Tangiers, Fez, Marakesh, Casablanca and Rabat. Has anyone been there and do you have comments or suggestions.
I thought it would be desert country, but in the few pictures I've seen it appears to be fairly agricultural. I'm thinking of a budget tour but wondering what kind of hotels, etc. that would mean in Morocco.

Go for it! We have traveled a great deal. and took a Trafalgar tour (Feb'04) of Morocco. Outstanding!! Morocco is an exotic & fascinating country.
The medina in Fez (Fes) was fascinating, and the nighttime bazaar
outside the medina in Marrakech is something you have to see to
believe.
Be prepared for fantastic scenery, wonderful food and more
donkeys -everywhere -than you have ever seen! It is interesting to
note that although rural dwellers seldom have cars, and are working
out in the middle of nowhere in all manner of weather, many have
cell phones. Very bad water, but very friendly people. Casablanca not as you may have pictured it (more a large, dirty city than anything else) but other than that, have a grand time!!

We also took a Morroco tour. It was amazing, but I must confess I was glad to get back to "western" culture in Spain.

Part of this was because the whole bus got sick, sort of a flu, didn't come from the food.

Very intense, gives you a beginning of an understanding of how different the Arab world is from ours.

That sounds like a nightmare, Walt. I worried before we went what would happen if one of us got sick and didn't feel well enough to get on the bus. Fortunately it didn't happen.

Did they do anything to help everyone? I can't imagine a busful of people with the flu trying to travel to the next location.

bad bus day(s)

It wasn't fun. We didn't get symptoms in unison, first one then another. the tour director had it too (I'm pretty sure, but he wouldn't admit it). . He was very helpful about local drugstore medications that were good for the tummy, and for one poor girl that had it real bad getting medical help. Not all days were on the bus, some were in a hotel and I could hibernate. Missed a couple of really good side excursions.

Morroco

We recently did a Globus Tour thru all the city's you listed. It was great! My son did get a bug but we had lots of medications and he was ok quickly. I would even consider doing some of Morroco again particularly the interior cities because they are so exotic! From snake charmers to the monkey handlers to rural third world living- it was very unusual for us. We found the people actually very friendly even more so than our reception in Portugal and Spain. Go for it!!!

Morocco is a bbeeaaauuutttiifffuuuullllll country. Most people think that Morocco is a desert country. But it really isn't. Westof the Middle and High Atlas Mountain range is the "green" Morocco where agriculture is prevalent. East of the mountain range is "dry" Morocco (i.e. Sahara Desert)

We flew into Casablanca, then went to Rabat, Fez, then over the Middle Atlas mountains to Erfoud (the optional excursion) was out to the Sahara desert for camel rides, then to Ouzazarte, Marrakesh and back to Casablanca. It was a total of 9 nights in Morocco.

I highly recommend it. The tour guides are very good and the accomodations are excellent.

Don't worry about getting sick or catching bugs. We're served bottled water and you just stay away from salads.
