Anyone else trying to lose a few lbs before your trip??

Postby Sweetpea » Sun Aug 29, 2004 12:28 pm

I know I'd like to lose 10 or 15 lbs before our trip in April, anyone else attempting to get into better shape?

(Unless of course if you're a fitness guru  in which case I'm sure you are the picture of perfection. (sooooo jealous!) :?

Hi

My daughter and I have been following weight watchers for 4 months.
I am happy to say I have dropped 25 pounds. She has dropped 35 and still going.

We have found it very easy to follow. She joined , I paid for half and just followed along. It has been very easy and she looks soooo great now not to say we are feeling much healthier.

WW is what I'm going to do as well. I have a daughter who just turned 1 and she was a c-section baby, needless to say things don't just pop back into shape after that little procedure! I did lose all the weight from the pregnancy but am just not happy with myself. I want to look DARN good on that beach in Jamaica!

Shelby

P.S. Congrats on your weight loss!!!!

I forgot to mention that I have done WW in the past so I am going to just use the materials I have from that to keep track of things! :P

Weight Loss

Postby Kathy » Sun Aug 29, 2004 2:10 pm

I've done WW off and on for a number of years.l I was getting tired of measuring and counting and paying. A friend of mine told me about the South Beach Diet, so I tried it. Yipes, what a difference. I bought the hard cover book at WalMart that has receipes already in it and what to follow. I lost 5 lbs. the first week and then 1-3 lbs. a week. I had only lost 10 lbs. with WW and lost additional 8 lbs. in 3 wks. This is without excerising. It says it will come off first in the stomach area and it did. The first 2 wks. you can't have any sugar or flour products. I thought this would be hard but after the first week, I love it. I'm never hungry.

Congrats on your weigh loss too! Everyone has to choose what diet is right for them. With WW, I lost all I wanted to in the past VERY easily. I lost 7 lbs in the first 2 weeks. Then one or 2 lbs a week until I reached my goal. I think different diets work differently for different people. You know? I don't want to do a diet where I have to give up anything such as surgar, carbs, whatever. So far this has worked and I don't mind at all keeping track of points!

Hi Shelby

I'm with you. I don't really want to "diet". . That is why we chose the WW way. Actually my daughter only went for 13 weeks. She got a student rate so we went with that. She did enjoy the company of other members but yes, it does cost money but we find we help each other. I am where I want to be but she is going for more. I think I am going to have to keep that girl locked up now. lol. For us, it was worth the $135 to get started and I was amazed too how easy it worked for the 2 of us.

You can do it Shelby. Just find a partner to help keep you encouraged. When we go to SW this march, there will be no point counting.

Good for you too Kathy.

I think everyone must find their own way to become healthier. I think too we were more determined this time and have set our mind to it. I just make better choices now, but when I am on holidays next march, I am not counting points. I am sure I will think about it somewhat but want to enjoy myself.
I think my first big hurdle will be thanksgiving in october. I love all that food and the leftovers that come with it. lol

Congratulations to all of you. You're right, not every diet works. As you get older your metabol. doesn't work as well. Mine doesn't! :( Keep it up girls.

Hey Sweetpea.. ..you should try 2 c-sections and a hysterectomy! Talk about your stomach being cut into! I only have about 10 lbs to lose and I am trying to lose it before our Panama Canal cruise in Dec. I figured, I am trying 1 lb a week. With me, I know exercise and 8 glasses of water seems to do the trick.

I may reach my weight goal.. ..but I think I will always have a tummy with my weak muscles. My kids are now 22 and 20 so that was quite a while ago. Believe me, you do survive!

HI

Postby RubyAnn » Mon Aug 30, 2004 12:24 am

I am actually back home from a two week visit in North Carolina! MUGGY!! :(
I am glad to be at my own computer.. ..life feels right now!
OK GALS!! I am finding that as I was reading on this topic, I was chuckling towards the end.. .. .. .. .. ..BECAUSE>>> NO MEN HAVE REPLIED!!!!
Too funny.. .. .. . all the talk on weight management, c-sections, and hysterectomy's have scared the guys out of the water!. .. ..big baby's!. ..Like there aren't any of the our favorite guys out there that couldn't stand to lose a few pounds!???????
I challenge any of the MEN to step on this platform and bare all!heehee.. ..come on tell us you wouldn't mind losing the 'beer-gut' or ??? I love to harass them
Anyways, now that I am home, my husband and I are going to be getting on some program to lose weight PLUS tone up. April will be here before you know it. I am not spending all of this money for you all to confuse me with 'whale-sighting'. . Is there any weight loss program that I can do where wine is part of the diet??? I think that is my downfall~~living in the wine country, it is hard not to succumb.
So let's keep this topic going so we can all encourage eachother.. ..Anyone welcomed to share!

Ruby.. .
You are too funny! What do you mean wine.. ..what about any alcohol? The main problem with Sandals that I have is trying all the fancy drinks. I don't waste money trying different drinks if I don't like it (of course, I haven't tried one I didn't like). . Boy, alcohol is wasted calories! So.. ..no liquor while I am trying to lose!

You do live in a pretty area of California. I have been to the Windsor winery. My husband has family in Sabastopol and Petaluma. We have some wineries in S. Calif. but not like you do in the wine country.

Llund,
I hear ya! For me it is one thing at a time..lol.I like the little 'nips' as I wind (notice it is not WINE down!) down from a day. But always in my head I hear 'calories, calories'!
Next time you are out this way, you should try the wineries north of Windsor,: Alexender Valley, Russian River or Dry Creek.. ..so yummy.. .. ..better yet, yodle to me before you get here and I will have a 'nip' with you!
Let's be good in the meantime! :D

Hey RubyAnn! I knew this would primarily be a female topic. Oh well! The men are MORE then welcome to join in. Maybe they don't need to lose anything and if so, I can't wait to see them at Whitehouse.

One thing I don't have a problem with is alcohol, I don't drink. Not for any specific reason, just never really cared for it. My husband always makes fun of me because when at a Sandals or Beaches, I get cranberry juice. Part of the reason I've never been into it is due to it's caloric intake. I'm sure you guys will do just fine giving up all that booze so you can drop a few!! Good luck!

Hey sweetpea! Don't be jelous of THIS bod.. .. .. .. .. .. ..after I turned 40, I swear, evrything just FELL! I had to get the wonder bra , the butt shaper underwear, the "face-lift in a jar". .. .. .. .!!!! I have an entire library at my health club, devoted to information on every "diet" on the planet! I agree, what works for one person, may not be good for another, it's so individual. I follow a strict lowfat diet.. .. .. .. .. ..and fall off the wagon now & then. I'm called the "guru" around here, because I have basically seen it all and done it ALL, and have accumulated so much info over the years.. .. .. .. .. ..which my club members are free to peruse through at their leisure. I'm glad I own the place, otherwise, I'm not so sure I would drag my arse to the gym every day! :D Here's to all our efforts, may we all feel "beach-worthy" by the time our vacations arrive!!!! (No "dieting" allowed while we are on vacation, pass the frozen drinks and keep 'em coming, please! )

That's right, pass me a pina coloda. Our past 2 winter trips were to sandals cuba and I ate and drank what I wanted (within reason) and gained no weight. Now that I have lost weight I am hoping the same will happen when going to jamaica. I am not going to talk about points (husband told me it's not allowed) so I will just make a better choice. But then again, when I have read about the french cafe/pastry area . .. .. . I am going to have to have dessert.

Guru - I wondered when you'd chime in! :P So good to see you, and your post cracked me up! I'm sure you're in wonderful shape!!!

I have eaten at the French Pattiserie at Beaches Turks and Caicos and they had some wonderful desserts!!! When I go on vacation I NEVER keep track of points, I eat whatever I feel like eating! We should all do the same!!!

Sweetpea, I think you hit on a subject that so many of us gals, no matter what our ages are, can relate to. Weight.. .. ..losing it and gaining it!
On vacation you will definately see me in line for the French pastry! ( which will be a delightful change from cucumbers! ) And btw.. .. .. ..that RubyAnn isn't foolin' me, I saw a picture of her, and she is simply lovely.. .. .. .. .. .

At SRB, there was a morning Pilates class in the pool.. ..which was fun. I only went to it twice, because it was too early in the morning for me to be in that pool exercising! There is a limit to my dedication, and that 7am thing was it!!!!

The secret is also to keep active. On my 50th we went to SDR. I climbed the falls, went snorkeling, went kayaking, played tennis, played golf, did the exercise class inthe pools, played some volleyball and kept really busy. I didn't gain anything even with all the drinking and desserts. Not a bad way to celebrate your 50th---by keeping active!

Hey Guru Girlfriend!!
I am home now, trying to remember whereverything is!
Tell you what I think I have discovered about myself~~I LOSE weight while on vacation! I think cause I am always on the go, and eat less when it is hot, so I burn everything off. Everytime while in Hawaii, the weight just drips off and while in NC for 2 weeks, I lost several pounds too. My husband, who surprised me by meeting me at the baggage claim when picking me up at SFO yesterday, said he had to stop and make sure it was me, cause from behind he didn't think it was me as I looked so much thinner!!! :D See why I am still with the guy after 27 years!!! He is a keeper!
So now my plan is to watch my carb intake, drink less of the good stuff, drink more of the necessity (WATER), and EXCERCISE!
My husband also lost 7 pounds while I was gone! So we are off to a nice start!
To anyone:Who else counts 'carbs'??? Has it worked for you? We don't hold true and fast to it,just try to make it work for us.
