Whitehouse "issue"

Postby Flowers » Mon Aug 16, 2004 8:30 am

The word out by Sandals, up until recently (this past year I think, maybe longer) had been that Whitehouse would be one of the their Beaches (family) resorts. Not sure just when they changed their minds.
The plagued with problems, might have come from.. .. . Sandals has been working on that property for 11 years (?). . Being that it was built in an area of a mangrove swamp, probably took a long time for them to stablize the ground as for to keep the buildings from sinking(?). . They must have gotten that problem solved, LOL. I haven't heard anyone mention before that the road to Whitehouse wasn't paved? This is hearsay on my part, but, there is a local that posts on fodors. put in a search for Whitehouse on there Caribbean board, for info.

I saw the ones Claude had taken.. .. .. ..is there anything newer than that? I didn't see anything new in the SSG newsletter, they just had the introduction. I'm trying to get my hands on anything new about the area! Even though it's nine months away, I'm going to think about the trip all winter!

Claude and the sales group went from Negril, so they did not go over that road from Negril. The Whitehouse and Southcoast FAM my mom went on in May also took the Negril road. Since everyone stays in Negril now, that is the way people are typically going.

There is another sales group going in 2 or 3 weeks, but I imagine those pics will take a while to come out, too. Not sure what you are all hoping to see. The only things not really visible are the spa and the restaurants. I know at Boscobel, we were there 3 weeks before the opening, and we couldn't get down into those areas due to liability issues.

Gees, Debbie our you serious here? Not sure what you are all hoping to see? I know you love pictures of places as much as the rest of us.
Maybe more pictures of the resort and beach? Pictures with the water in the Pool? Buildings in the completed stage? Maybe just what kind of ocean view these buildings will have? I am even curious for them. Looks like from Claude's pics there could be a lot of vegetation on the beach that will obstruct the view from some of the rooms. Thinking that maybe that is why the upper category rooms are located mostly on the third and fourth floors to see over this vegetation to view the ocean. Sandals idea of Beachfront view to me can be misleading at some of their resorts. They don't tell you what's on that beachfront, you maybe looking at, like trees instead of the water. I am curious to see more pictures of this beachfront and views from the rooms. Do these four story building have elevators?

Was Claude's beach picture taken in front of the resort, or looking at the beach beyond the resort from the Sandals beach area?

yeah, pretty much the beach picture of claude's was horrible. not claude's fault, but i just mean that the beach don't look that appealing in that pic. and i agree flowers, i loved claude's pictures cuz anything's better than nothing, but come on! let's get some finished pics in here. i keep calling sandals to see when they're gonna update the website but no one knows. of course, all of those pics will be airbrushed so i'd probably rather look at claude's or some other candid pics of the place.

The beach is just as if you landed yourself on an uninhabited island. They have done nothing to it as of yet. You won't see water in pools until just before they open. I doubt you will see such a photograph until they were open. When I was at Boscobel 3 weeks before they opened, the waterslides were not in, the restaurants were not done, the entire adult block was blocked and not even near completion, but they opened 3 weeks later w/ every bit of it complete.

Some of that vegetation may be redone.

BTW, Beachfront at Sandals and most resorts does not mean you necessarily have a fabulous beach view. Beachfront is the closest room category to the beach. Oceanview means view the ocean somewhere. Oceanfront usually means closer to the beach than oceanview or same distance with a better view.

Debbie,
The Sandals webpage for Whitehouse says "all oceanfront rooms." On the room site, they call every room a "beachfront room" (no oceanview or oceanfronts are listed). . So, do all the rooms have a view of the ocean or not?

All categories say view of ocean and pool, and since they are all set back a ways, that is what I think you will see. Since nobody knows what they will ultimately do w/ the foliage, I don't know how good the various views will be (such as ground vs. higher). . I picked my category because I think I want ground floor no matter what the view is.

That is how I thought the rooms may be, Debbie. I am a view person and feel that if I am going to a place new the water, I want to see the water. the foliage should not be too high next year as it will be new. But, we booked the luxary beachfront room, so we will see.

I don't know. They were still deciding about the foliage when Claude was there. Clearly, the upper 2 floors are the best bet.
