Alone in a Cosmos tour

Alone in a Cosmos tour

Postby jcapple » Tue Aug 10, 2004 7:22 pm

I’m joining a Cosmos tour alone and I’m a little nervous about it. It’s OK for me to walk/eat alone but I’d like to mingle with the tour members. I’m wondering how I can tell if the tour members would feel OK if I joined them (looking around the place/shops, eat at the same table). . Won’t people not like me to join them because they joined the tour to spend private time with their loved ones? I’m not a native English speaker and I’m not sure what phrases to use to ask their permission.

What if we’re going around the shops together. If I’m still looking at something and they are ready to move to the next shop, what should I say to mean “go ahead”

Thanks!

I'm sure there should be plenty of people in the group that would be willing to let you tag along, if not others in the same situation as you. If you need to ask, just tell whoever you would like to join "May I join you?". . And as far as shopping, if you want to keep looking just tell them "I'll catch up". . And you never know, you might find someone who speaks your language, or at least a little. Hope you have a great trip!

I've been in a couple of Cosmos tours and met a lot of people travelling alone, they always had fun in the tour and made friends, most of the people that are alone are paired up in a hotel room with another person who is travelling alone. In our last tour, we made a very good friend who was alone at that time.

My wife and I took a Cosmos tour this spring. We had several singles in our group. Our group made it a practice to mingle and switch dining tables nearly every night. No one was left out. By the end of the tour we had made many new friends. Meeting new friends was as much fun as seeing new places. Don't worry.

Alone on a Cosmos Tour

jcapple,

Don't worry about a thing!! I have taken 5 Cosmos tours and I was alone each time. 2 of the 5 times I got lucky and did not have to share a room because I was the only solo woman (there were single women traveling together). .

The tour director makes everyone rotate on the coach so you are never in the same seat surrounded by the same people. By the end of the tour, you will have sat next to everyone and chatted with them.

Just make sure you are not a wallflower and make it a point to talk to people and get to know them. People come from all over the world and this is part of the fun.

Included meals are also a group event. As a matter of fact, you might find people fighting (good naturedly) to sit next to you during dinner. :)

Since traveling with Cosmos, I have traveled all over the world to visit my Cosmos friends and they have come to visit me. Great things are ahead for you.

Have a great trip!!

travelling alone

I have just returned from a 24 day trip to Europe with Cosmos, I paid for single supplement to ensure a room to myself. However, most on the tour were friendly and it is a good idea to move around at dinner times and meet as many as possible. There was one couple who refused to rotate which was not fair as they wanted to remain in a good viewing seat. We had all ages on the tour and 7 singles. It is a good idea not to go anywhere alone at any time. I am sure you will find someone to shop with, have lunch with etc. The meals supplied are quite small and a set menu which is served very quickly. I did find the hotel Landhau in Switzerland quite below standard as were a few of the hotels in Italy especially where I was allocated a single room. However, once we were in France and Spain the hotels were fine, although some were noisy. You have to learn to do without a lot of sleep and most people dozed on the bus during the day. The advantage of travelling alone is that you have a double seat on the coach to yourself.
