I recently returned from a week in Italy and had a wonderful time. I did not experience any negativity towards me as an American while in Italy. I did see some anti-American graffiti here and there, but most of the graffiti was about biotech issues. Of course, I make it a practive NEVER to discuss politics while a guest in someone else's house!

I live in California and have had a villa in Tuscany for 14 years. we travel all over Italy and have just come back last saturday. Took the entire family and you will find no problems. The Italians love Americans and you will be treated like you live there. The only word of caution is in the big cities like Rome watch out for the gypsy's and pickpockets. Take caution on the bus there also. Most of the other cities like Venice and Florence, etc keep them under control.
