Windstar cruises:
My wife and I had the pleasure of taking a 12 day cruise on Windstar,
specifically the Windsprit. Our cruise was a trip from Athens to Gibraltar
and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
The ships are small, only about 150 people. On our trip we spent a lot of
time under sail. The sails are hydraulically set and computer controlled.
When under sail the ship is quiet and smooth.
The atmosphere is very pleasant, courteous, and informal. There are no
formal nights, semi-formal nights, or even partially formal nights. The
bridge is open if you want to see what is going on. If this is the
atmosphere you're looking for you will like Windstar. The ships are not
equipped for the handicapped as there are no elevators.
Particularly nice is that it is a single seating for meals, meaning that
you can go to dinner or lunch when you feel like it with whomever you feel
like. If you want to be part of a large table and head waiter can arrange
that. If you want to be alone, that's no problem either. The food was
quite good, expertly prepared very courteously served. The service on the
rest of the ship is equally as gracious and well-organized. There is a
pint sized casino and a real size pool & Jacuzzi.
The cabins are relatively small and for the most part set low in the ship.
Although completely adequate, comfortable and modern they not the kind of
cabins you'll spend much time in. The public spaces are high in the ship
and very pleasant and accommodating and where you spend your time.
I would heartily recommend this cruise line for adults. The are limited or
no facilities for children. We would have taken more cruises since my
Mediterranean trip, but Windstar does not seem particularly imaginative
when it comes to destinations!
