What problems did you encounter, Guest, that makes you say "never again"?

Sail with NCL again, unlikely.

Postby Guest » Sat Aug 07, 2004 5:17 pm

The food was not at all good, the ship had problems with the engines, meaning we missed a port and a days less cruising, their "compensation" was $12.75 per passenger. The stafff were rude and unhelpful, the ship was not up to standard. Check in was a nightmare etc. Sail with NCL again, unlikely, NO WAY.

NCL

Postby starspangle1 » Wed Aug 11, 2004 10:22 am

I have been on 7 cruises, 4 of them NCL and have the Dawn booked for 9/26. I have had good and bad with NCL but nothing that can't be dealt with. Come on lets face it, after having been through working in NY(9/11)one knows how to deal with anything. If there's something that's not right of course for all the money and time you've spent for vacation then fix it. Complain to the highest person on the ship but do it with class. Remember, being sweet gets more then sour. Have a little fun with getting what you want, smile and smile alot and go see the captain.

We took a cruise on the Norweigan Sun last January. The food was excellent. The rooms were nice and always kept very clean. The staff was very nice and professional. The ship was beautiful and clean. But the best part was the food. It was outstanding!!! YOu want to eat some crappy food and have the worst service and the worst boat then by all means go on the Carnival Victory. We just returned from a New England, Canadian cruise with them. The food was so bad we could not even eat it. The staff was rude and not informative. When you went through the buffett they did not even give you a tray to carry your food. That meant you had to get food and then go back and stand in another line to get your drink. By the time you got back your food was cold. Awful ship Awful food Awful staff. If anybody thinks ncl is bad by all means go on the Carnival Victory. You will think ncl is heaven. Go on the Norweigan Sun. It is an outstanding cruise ship. We will never cruise with any other line again.

Trip from Hell

Postby Guest » Mon Nov 08, 2004 12:06 pm

I will never cruise with NCL again. We were stuck in a hudge storm that we should have never been in. The worst part of the ride was the moment that the windows on the fifth floor crashed open. There was a fire and we were sounded six short blasts followed by one long on which signeled us to get on the life boats. We were sooo scared and no one had any answers. There were up to 50 foot swells and 80 mph winds outside. Needless to say it was a scary situation, that we should have never been put in. It would have been better is people had given us some answers. You know that the storm had to have been bad if we were delayed by 23 hours.

HAS ANYONE.. .. .. .. .

Postby ANNE » Mon Nov 08, 2004 6:56 pm

I'M AFRAID TO ASK, WHAT SHIP WERE YOU ON? IT HAS TO BE THE NCL SPIRIT. ROCKHARD BEDS GAVE IT AWAY. WHAT DATES WERE ON? WHAT ITENERARY? WE ON FOR THE 12/3/04, 9 DAY SO CARIBBEAN. I'M VERY SKEPTICAL!!! MAYBE IT IS BEST TO BE PREWARNED!!!!

NCL DAWN NOT GOING TO TORTOLA - AND THEY COULD CARE LESS

Postby Guest » Mon Nov 22, 2004 11:02 am

NCL IS LESS THAN IMPRESSIVE. THE PEOPLE ON THE PHONE ARE EITHER UNIMFORMED OR RUDE. They cut ne stop from our cruise because of engine problems and all they said was you'll get your $7 in port fees back. The policy is to do nothing else.

Unfortunately, most, though not all, of the negative posts I read here are from inexperienced cruisers with unfounded expectataions. NCL and freestyle cruising are not for everyone, by any means. Those who prefer a more formal, traditional atmosphere should certainly consider another line, however for those who prefer quality, while still having the freedom to do thing when and where they choose, NCL is simply the best. I've sailed on nearly 15 cruises, on several differenct cruise line, and I've just booked my 3rd cruise with NCL. If you go with the attitude that you're going to have a good time, believe me, you will.

NCL

Postby Jim » Tue Nov 23, 2004 3:47 pm

I beg to differ to the views expressed by suzier, above. I have taken a total of 74 cruise and have found NCL to be the worst of them all. I think the idea of freestyle cruising is a good one but only if the cruise line is capable of pulling it off.

new to cruise lingo here, what is "Freestyle" mean? Honestly I did not know there were different style cruises other than where they go (I said I was new). . Would you or someone explain the types as this would factor big on what our first cruise should be.

Freestyle

Postby Jim » Wed Nov 24, 2004 3:59 am

"Freestyle" cruising mean that you can eat at what time you like as opposed to fixed time dining, i.e. 6.30pm or 8.30pm evening dining. Hope this helps..Jim

Freestyle Cruising

Postby Ric on Vancouver Island » Fri Dec 31, 2004 5:45 pm

This means that you do not have an assigned table for every meal at which
you dine with the same passengers (so if one gets an unacceptable table
the answer is to ask for a move) :) . . The publicity blurb says one can reserve
a time and the number of other diners to be at your table, but not a particular table. Otherwise one has to attend between the times stated and
face the possibility that you may have to wait for a large table -or will be asked to share with others. We all have our preferences.
We sailed from Vancouver to Alaska and then on to Miami on Sept.25 on the "Norwegian Spirit" - and what a fabulous ship it is! The decor and the
facilities were first-class and the service too.
Freestyle dining is not for us as we got stuck sharing a table with tee shirts one night and a couple of drunks on another. There are three specialty
restaurants with cover charges of $12,50/15/20 per person-so we will stay
with the old-style dining and wear our formal clothes on formal nights.

Norwegian Spirit

Postby erniema » Tue Mar 15, 2005 12:50 am

My wife and I recently sailed on the Norwegian Spirit. We had an absolutely fabulous time; this was our tenth cruise and would definitely sail on NCL lines again. In regard to hard bedding, that is correct but the Spirit also offers to put a soft topping onto bed which we had them do for us, and it was very good. The food was excellent, and service impeccable. I would however not opt to pay extra for the 3 upgraded restaurants; we found them to be noisy. We used the normal restaurants and got a window seat for just the two of us on just about every meal. I think one of the other respondents said it all when he said if you just smile a little you can get a lot more out of your cruise. Is everything perfect?, no but what in life is? We are again looking to return to NCL with another cruise this summer or fall. :D

We sailed on the Norwegian Dawn and had a wonderful time. We loved the freestyle dining and felt that NCL did a wonderful job with it. We tried "open dining" with Princess and found it less desirable since we still had to make reservations (and were often unable to do so at the time we wanted). . We generally sat at a table for 2 on NCL so did not have to worry about other people (the one time, though, that we shared a table it was with a delightful couple). . I agree with several people who have posted here - you can always find something wrong if you loo. On the other hand, if you are prepared to have a great time. you probably will. We couldn't do some of the shore excursions we wanted because the weather was so stormy, but that didn't stop us from having fun. Not NCL's fault that there was a storm between Jamaica and Grand Cayman. I though the crew was wonderful and continuing to provide quality service and great entertainment even with the ship rocking and rolling. We plan to sail with NCL again next year.

I was on that cruise too! It was a nightmare. Plus, I just heard that the Norwegian Dawn is giving 50% refunds b/c a rogue wave hit them - how is that worse than what we went through??? And all I got was a letter that said we were safe, hope you cruise Norwegian again!!

I only had one cruise and yep it was on NCl and I must not be very cruise professional I had a great time. The people were extra nice and helpful, the food was good, the shows were good. We did get one day of bad weather the staff went out of their way to make sure every one had a good time. The bed was uncomforable but everything else was so much fun. We went to the Bahamas. Just dec we are going on the Sun to mexico and I have no reget about the decision picking the NCl again. WE did not book it through Ncl we find it cheapr when we go through expedia.

We sailed to Alaska in May on the Dream, and yes we are newcomers, but.. .. .. .. . the food was good, the service was excellent, everyone was very pleasant and cooperative. In fact we loved it so much.. .. .. ..we booked the Jewel in January to the Caribbean.
Try another cruise line, if you didn't like NCL
