Ann,
On our 3 week tour there were 2 very senior ladies (our families personal favorite people on the whole trip) together and 3 other senior ladies who were traveling solo and 3 younger (20-30ish)ladies. They all had time on their own when they wanted so, and they would join whichever group they decided on at the moment and were always welcomed. If you are outgoing you will have as many friends as you could want or be as alone as you please and the beauty is it is your choice. Go and Enjoy

do it

Postby nursesue » Fri Jun 25, 2004 10:18 pm

Hi Anne,
Bravo for you, do the trip on your own. I can relate to what you are saying. I am a single female going on MY OWN for 3 weeks to Europe in August, am VERY nervous, BUT, have done tons of reasearch, and you should do it. Everyone who I have contacted to on the internet is very positive and state that there will be no problems!
Were are you planning on going and when? If you have any questions, let me know
Looking forward to making new friends in my travel

I am also a "young" senior and am going on my first trip in October to Ireland. I am a bit nervous, but also do not want to sit at home just because I do not have a spouse or someone who can travel with me.

I am looking forward to meeting new friends and seeing sights!

traveling alone in europe

Ann: I wouldn't worry about being alone on a tour. I've been traveling to Europe alone, both on tours, and on my own for the past thirty years. Escorted tours are a wonderful way for a slightly "senior" lady to feel safe and meet others. I've met many couples, families, singles, seniors, and young people who I was very comfortable with and happy for their company each time I've gone out of the U.S. There will always be someone you can relate to strike up a conversation and maybe even find some mutual likes. So go, have a great time, and take lots of pictures. Memories, good or bad, will always remind you that you took a chance, and went it alone!

Planning my first solo vacation

Postby seastarsgf » Thu Jul 08, 2004 6:43 am

:) Hi Ann!

I also am going to start traveling by myself, as my husband is unable to take off work (he owns his own business and is pretty "trapped")

I have booked the October tour with Globus to Hawaii (Grand Hawaii) for my first, and am a little anxious.

I know it will be worth it and need a vacation so badly!

Check it out - it sounds historic and fun. I want to learn, I want to snorkel,
relax, and eat good food!

There didn't happen to be any singles on our trip but there was a mom with her two college age daughters and a grandmother with her two grandsons. The grandmother especially didn't hang out too much with the boys but instead hung out with the other adults on the trip. Everyone on our trip was very friendly. When we had meals together, we'd always end up sitting with other people from our tour and got to know them.

I felt like it was New Student Week at college where a bunch of strangers all are thrown together and end up becoming almost a famly. It really added a lot to the trip.

Traveling Alone

Anne:

On my honeymoon tour to Hawaii, there was a couple of singles on the tour. We did the 13 day Grand Hawaii. Everyone ended up becoming friends and had a great time together. Don't worry, a tour is great for those traveling alone. Others will also look out for you b/c eveyone was friendly.
