My bestfriend and I are planning a trip to Italy in September for 8 days to bring in our 30th Birthday. We are both female and it will just be the two of us. The only place we think we may want to visit is Rome.

Are there any other areas we should consider?

What are some of the best sites to see, tours to take, excursions to go on in Italy?

Any suggestions on hotels or areas that would be good to stay at? (somewhere with a nightlife)

What about cost.. ..how far can the dollar go?

Any advice you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

We thoroughly enjoyed Sorrento and the Amalfi coast, we'd go back there and spend some time just sitting. Also Pompeii--its amazing! Don't take a short tour there, spend a day. We missed Naples, but would like to go back for a day or two.

I think I could spend a month in Italy easily, and still not do all I wanted to.
