Fascination cruise

Postby Nettie » Tue May 04, 2004 9:09 pm

My husband and I took a cruise a couple of years ago (7 days) to the Virgin Islands, and the experience was very interesting. We sailed by night and ported by day so we could visit the different islands. We really had a wonderful time, however, the tipping to the waiters, hosts, etc., was a little confusing to me as that is not included in the package price, and was separate. If I recall, you can't bring any kind of alcohol on the ship either, your suppose to purchase it on the ship. Even though it was all-inclusive, not everything is included so keep that in mind. I am looking for a 3 - 4 day cruise at the end of July or the first of August out of Galveston, Texas, as the 7 day cruise for us was just a little long.. ..we would have like to have spend more time on the different islands. Don't get me wrong, some people prefer that. One other thing, was the neither one of the hot tubs were working, so that was kind of a bummer, I guess those things happen sometimes, but when you spend money on a trip, you would expect things to be in working order. All in all the trip was worth it, we had great experiences, saw things we would have never seen, i.e., school of dolphins swimming pretty close to us, sunsets were beautiful, food was good and we did come back home very rested.

We did the same tour back in April. It was fantastic. Great boat, crew, good to quite good food, great ports of call.

Go to cruisecritic.com and look for several recent extensive reviews on both their general message boards and their review board.

LET ME SUGEEST A FEW THINGS.. .. .. . AS FAR AS THE SODA IS CONCERNED ON THE SHIP.. .. .. . DO NOT DRINK THE SODAS IN YOUR ROOM.. .. . ALSO CARNIVAL SHIPS HAVE SOMETHING CALLED A FOUNTAIN FUN CARD AND ITS UNLIMITED FOUNTAIN SODA FOR YOUR ENTIRE TRIP. ON ANOTHER NOTE IS TIPPING IS CONFUSING FOR YOU.. ..I WOULD SUGGEST THE PRE PAID GRATUITIES.. ..WHICH ARE USUALLY $10.00 PER PERSON PER DAY THAT WAY YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT TIPPING ON YOUR CRUISE. ITS ALREADY TAKEN CARE OF. BARTENDERS ALREADY ADD THEIR 15% TIP IN THE PRICE OF THE DRINKS SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT TIPPING THEM.. .. . ANY EXTRA TIPPING AFTER YOU HAVE ALREADY PAID YOUR GRATUITIES IS UP TO YOU. HOPE THIS HELPS AND IF I CAN FURTHER ASSIST ANYONE WITH A FUTURE CRUISE OR IF ANYONE HAS ANY QUESTIONS LET ME KNOW.. ..I'D BE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANYTHING. 800-733-4703 KIM

Fascination

Went on my first cruise back in May. For the most part was not bad. Unforseen weather put a damper on my shore excursion as it was cancelled due to high wind and surf in the Bahamas. Most of the crew were nice there a few who seem to have an attitude where they look down at Americans as being wasteful etc. The soda card as prev mention is the way to go. As for beer, drinks etc they run anywhere from 4.00 to 6.00 bucks. They have specials all day where you pay 6.00 and if you keep the glass the next drink is around 4.00 or 5.00. I would suggest the late dining if you did not already choose as you don't have to rush aroud to make your seating. We found out that the cruise we were on was a lesbian cruise but that aside it did not bother me, now my father - in - law ws a little set back. But all in all a nice trip and not a bad time.
