Passport or not

Postby TamiL121 » Wed Apr 07, 2004 5:48 pm

We are taking the Norwegian Seas out of Houston. We are US citizens. Does anyone know for sure if we need a passport. One person we talked to said we did since we are going to cancun. another person said we do not. NCL notes state passport are preferred ($85) list info describing that we do not but state it is up to the individual to find out for sure

If you are a US citizen then you DO NOT need a passport to visit Cancun, but if you already have a Passport then it never hurts to bring it. A US Passport is the best ID an American can have.

passport requirements

Mexico does NOT require passports for US citizens with drivers license AND birth certificate with raised seal. Married women whose last name on license is different from birth certificate would be wise to also take marriage license. To check other ports of call besides Mexico, search "entry requirements" for that country.

We took a cruise out of Galveston that went to Mexico and only had our birth certificates (not copies, but ones issued from the State) and our driver's license.

To a lot of countries, you do not need one. BUT Your birth Certificate must match your driver's license. For men this is no problem.
If you changed your name when you got married, you may have a probkem.

passports

At this time, May 2005, you do NOT have to have a passport, but it is preferred. You must have a drivers license and notarized birth certificate (copies won't work). .

Govt regulations are changing that. By the 12/31/05, you WILL be required to have a passport going to and coming from Mexico, So. America, etc.

By 12/31/2006 you WILL be required to have a passport
when entering or leaving Canada.

By the way, if you plan on driving through Canada, you will NOT be allowed in if you have a DUI. The Canadian police are also quite rigid on other traffic laws: seat belts, etc etc. Check this stuff out before you go.
