My wife and I can't decide which tour to do. Can anyone help? Can anyone recommend one of them? :?: :?:

:o Hi,
I have done hours of research and talk to many people. Quite a few of the nurses who I work with here in Vancouver Canada are from Europe, and also a number of other nurses have spend great lengths in Europe. I showed them information on both of the trips you are refering too, and after much thought, I have booked a trip for myself with Globus, and I am doing the "traditional grand European" I am going end of August. Let me know what you have decided!!

Good luck

Sue
Looking forward to making new friends in my travel

:) Hi Sue,
Thank you for your reply. We looked carefully at the tour that you are doing. I think it looks great but, we are quite interested in the visits to Pompeii, Sorrento and Isle of Capri.

We think that the Old World Classic looks the best option to us but it goes to Brussels and not Amsterdam and Brussels doesn't seem all that interesting.

Enjoy your trip.

Old World Classic v. Traditional Grand Europe

Postby nankirk99 » Fri Apr 01, 2005 11:36 am

My husband and I are taking Old World Classic leaving May 21, 2005. I have been to Europe many times, but my husband has never been to Europe.

We chose Old World Classic instead of Grand Europe because we wanted to see Capri, Sorrento and Pompeii. Also, the pace seemed a little slower and more stuff was included in the tour each day with Globus. Also the days are the same for both, but Grand Europe you go to more places so it seems the pace is faster, you are on the bus more, you see more of Germany and Austria. So it just depends, which you want to see more of and stay longer in places.

I think both are excellent tours. Just remember, it is a fast paced tour, take as many optionals as you can (some may be hokey, but all in all lots of fun) and enjoy the people on your tour, the fun stories that you will bring home regarding the tour you will never forget.

If you have any questions regarding tours, I have been on many (Insight, Trafalgar, Globus, Russian River Cruise), just respond to this e-mail and I will help you the best I can.

Everyone, have a great time on your trips.

Thank goodness someone else is going to take this tour! We have decided on the same one, and for the same reasons as you, and have booked in late August. It has been a bit scary because hardly anyone has replied, and it makes you wonder if there is a reason we should know about! Our trip hasn't been confirmed as yet, but we are really hoping it will go ahead, as it's a huge trip for us from New Zealand and it would really set the cat among the pigeons if we had to go later or earlier.(We both work and have one teenager at school). . We have been looking at the trips for over a year now, so have been doing lots of searching on the net and travel sites to try to make sure we get the best trip for us. I am surprised at the lack of postings on this forum, especially when compared to the TTsite, and must admit have used the TT one for lots of info on silly things like shoes, clothing, laundry etc. Anyway thanks for your reply. We would love to hear how your trip goes, and any tips on special souvenirs at different destinations would be great. I don't want to waste too much time shopping!

I'd be interested in what the TT site is that you mentioned.

We took a Globus tour last summer and I occasionally check back in here to relive memories and post a thought or two.

One site that I thought was a lot of help was the Rick Steves site. They have lots of packing tips and other fun information. They also have "scrapbooks" of some of their customer's trips. I really enjoyed looking at them both before and after I went. Some are really well done.

Debbie, the site I have been referring to is www.trafalgar.com, then click on message board. I have also looked at the other one you mentioned, but didn't spend too much time there. Might have another look as you found it good. It seems more TT people seem to look on their site as there are always new messages posted. This site doesn't seem to get much new responses, or so I feel. Perhaps it's just that those of us going on a tour are really revved up and have lots of questions, whereas once it's over people don't look here anymore! It's a pity cause we really want advice and opinions etc from others who have "been there, done that"! It seems as if noone has done the tour we are doing ever! Presumably this is not the case.

Thanks Kiwi - I'll browse there.

You are right, there aren't lots of posts here. When I was reading last year, it kind of went in spurts.

We went on the From the Thames to the Tiber. It is the only tour that I have any experience with. However, I think there is probably a lot of similarities between tours that hit the same cities.

If you go back to old posts, you can find out more. Some things seem to get touched upon periodically.

I looked up your Old World Classic. WOW - you are going to see a lot.

Our tour was just two weeks (plus weekends) rather than three and we spent three nights in the major cities.

We were in London, Paris, Lucerne, Venice, Florence and Rome. If you have questions about any of those, I may be able to answer them. However we did a lot on our - with the extra time in the cities, we were able to do that pretty easily. The tours might work out better with your tour. Actually maybe your tour includes more the the things that are sometimes optional - don't know. Our tour basically included a half day city tour in each city. The rest was optional - or in our case, on our own.

Something else you might do, is look up some of Globus's other tours. There might be notes under other tour names that would be applicable to you where the tours are similar.
