Hi, in advance, thanks for the help. Going to mexico, in September, at an all-inclusive. I know tips are included but I feel the need to tip anyway. Is it better to tip in us dollars or pesos. I feel bad making them go to the money exchange. maybe it's just part of the workers routine. I don't know. Pesos or Dollars? Any clues???

It's better if you give them a dollar than pesos. People apreciate more the dollars than pesos and make feel them that is more money.

Actually, this is not true. I live and work here and we all prefer pesos for tips because we do not have to go on our one day off to the bank and wait in line to exchange dollars for pesos.

Just as you get a better deal at stores and restaurants for using pesos (as the merchant exchange rate is usually 10 pesos per dollar, and the bank exchange is 11.00 peso per dollar) it is the same for locals. Pesos are liquid money and the peso is the peso, while the US dollar has been going down in value against the peso. Last month is was 11.2 pesos per dollar on the street, this week it is 10.90 pesos. If I saved my dollars from two weeks ago, I lost money holding my dollars to exchange.

Of course, no one will turn down a tip in any currency, so not matter what you give it is appreciated, but peso tips can be used right now for everything, while most workers will have to hold on to their dollars to exchange them at a bank to get more pesos or "bang" for their buck.

We just returned and the massage guy told us that he would prefer dollars. I guess it just depends
