Cosmos tour company

:D Is there anyone out there who has taken a trip with Cosmos? My husband and I are taking the Europe at Leisure tour in September and I would like to hear what people have to say about the company. Like how were the hotels and the meals? I'm hearing conflicting reports on them and will welcome any feedback you can give me.

We took the same tour with Cosmos a few years ago. All I can say, it was "The Tour From Hell". . Hotels are absolutely horrible, food for the most part edible except for the hotel outside of Lucerne (in Fluelen). . That food was horrible. The dessert was an apple and the main dish was noodles. That's all--noodles. The tour guide was the worst ever. Could care less about conditions or helping you. The joke on our bus was that she and the driver would end up paying us a gratuity at the end of the tour. We have taken many, many European tours and I would never, ever go with Cosmos again.

I have taken many Cosmos tours, Grand Tour of France; Spain, Portugal and Morocco; Cosmopolitan Europe; Vienna, Prague and Budapest and all I can say is.. .. . You get what you pay for. The hotels are out of the city center but the money you save by taking Cosmos can easily afford you transportation to and from and they are clean. In addition, almost everything on Cosmos is optional. I would add in approx. $300 per person (high end) for all the optionals depending on what they are. If you are looking for find dining experiences with this group.. ..look away. Luckily, you will have a lot of free time to choose your own restaurants or join the optionals.

My trips to France and Spain, Morocco and Portugal were fabulous. We had Tour Directors that gave us a college education in 2 weeks time. They were also very helpful and personable. On the other hand, I recently came back from Cosmopolitan Europe and it was horrific. The Tour Director was not helpful and any advice she did give was wrong. 98% of the time and she would give bad financial advice. Since I had been to most of these countries before and I was prepared with books, I was lucky enough not to pay more than necessary.. ..unlike a lot of the other travelers.

In addition, I like to go off on my own and independent time is very important to me. I use Cosmos because they are the cheapest and I can get around very easily. My advice, since you are already booked with Cosmos, buy 1-2 travel books. I like Rick Steves (he has great self guided tours and Frommers (great self guided walks). .

Also, the passengers are from all over the world.. ..USA, South Africa, Korea, China, Japan, Europe, Australia.. .. . They truly make the trip very enjoyable.

Have a wonderful time and cross your fingers that you get one of Cosmos' better Tour Directors.. ..they truly make the difference.

Cosmos does not bill itself as a luxury tour company, and it is not. It is, however, more than adequate, affordable, and conscientious in all its dealings. The one time when I reported an inferior tour director--her English was appalling--Cosmos voluntarily refunded ten percent of the price of the tour. To my mind, it's the cheapest, most efficient transportation within Europe, with a little free food and respectable accommodations thrown in.

We took a Cosmos tour on our first trip to Europe to get acquainted with the continent. If I had known I would have expend the extra money on a "Globus" tour. Comsos hotels are on the cheap scale outside of the city centers - you woul;d be better off going on your own than with cosmos.
Globus on the other hand chooses better rated hotels in city centers.
Europe is so easy to travel around that you don';t need a tour.
one thing is for sure : forget Cosmos tours - they are crappy!

My husband and I took a tour of Austria, Switzerland, Germany and Italy with Cosmos 2 years ago and felt we got our money's worth. Yes, the hotels are farther out and the food is nothing special, but the tour guide was great and we enjoyed all the people on the tour from other countries. Too many optional tours, but we figured out how to do most everything "optional" on our own using public transportation. We also took a Trafalgar tour of Spain and Portugal this past Dec. and although the hotels were closer in to the sights and a bit classier than the Cosmos hotels, there were too many optional tours and they were way too expensive.

If I ever take a guided tour again, I will choose one which spends a minimum of 3 days per city. Changing hotels and getting up very early daily is too tiring! I actually want to do a river cruise in Europe next!!!
