My family and mother are traveling to Italy in Sept. We will be arriving at 10:30 PM. What is the least expensive, yet safe way to get to the Ripa Hotel in Rome? Train into city, then 2 taxi's? Pre-arrange a van from the airport?

We did Trafalgar Tour Milan and Italian lakes in June 04 which the
airport was 1hr + drive to hotel we also had my mother she is 80

Suggest that you pre arrange transportation shuttle the tour co or hotel
or airport should be able to assist you

We wanted to get a cab for a few miles to go downtown when we were at milan (we arrived a day early) they told us 90 euros each

Only use the proper licensed taxi's which can be found immediately outside the Arrival Hall at FCO. There are dozens of touts who will come over and ask if you want a taxi, don't, they are overpriced and often illegal. Arrived there last year after 11pm and no official taxi's were at the rank, lots of unlicensed though waiting to fill up with new arrivals, I just kept refusing their offers of a bargain to Rome and eventually a licensed taxi turned up, put on the meter and took me to my destination.
