weather in Italy

Postby venicebound » Thu Feb 26, 2009 12:41 pm

Hi,

We will be going to Rome, Venice, Sorrento, Florence this July. Is the weather going to be extremely hot in all these cities during this time? Would we need to pack any sweaters, light jacket?

Leave the sweaters at home. Take a light jacket in case of showers. It will be HOT. We went in October and only had light jackets.
Cheers

Hi,

I was in Venice in 2002 and found that city to be my favorite too. I really enjoyed St. Mark's Square. I've never been to Rome or Sorrento though. I assume those cities are a lot warmer than the northern cities.

You will enjoy Sorrento. Be sure and have some limonchello.

Can you go on your own sightseeing in Sorrento? Is it easy to find one's way in this town? How are the hotels here?

Yes, Sorrento is a very small town and it is easy to walk around in the central area. We spent a free afternoon there while on tour. This is where you can purchase limonchello from one of the vineyards in town. We did not stay at a hotel there overnite so I cannot comment on suitability. We did stay two nights at the Palm hotel on the Isle of Capri. The Isle of Capri is a must see when you are there.

sorrento in july

Postby WanttoseeitALL » Sat May 30, 2009 6:08 am

I was in Sorrento for a week in july 2 years ago, it's about high 80's, sunny, low humidity and wonderful We stayed in the Hilton, which was a beautiful hotel, we walked all over the town, miles and miles, we toured down the Amalfi coast, we went to Capri, we ate out some of the best meals in Italy. This will be a trip you'll never forget!

If you have questions on a specific hotel I sugget you go to tripadvisor for hotel reviews.

extremely hot in Italy

Postby venicebound » Fri Jul 31, 2009 7:13 pm

Hi,

We just came back from the Best of Italy tour and was it ever warm. It reached 95 degrees a couple weeks ago in Rome, Venice, Pompeii, Florence, Sorrento, Assisi. Verona was a bit cooler. Make sure you bring insect bite spray, as some will get bitten on the legs, apparently you can't see the bugs but they will cause you to itch all day. It was so hot we weren't able to fully enjoy the sights as we'd be sweating the whole time unless you were in the shade. We recommend going to Italy in the spring or fall.

I agree. We were there the beginning of May last year and the temperatures were perfect but rainy!

We wanted to avoid any rainy days so chose July. If you are prepared for the heat then you should still have a great time. Wear a hat, carry bottled water with you at all times. I brought a small fan along and it helped. Don't bring any jeans, I wore capri pants the whole time. The local guides will tell you to walk in the shade when possible.
