Am I missing something? :?:
Are there no new messages since the new year began?
We might not be able to afford to travel, but we can at least TALK about it

Hi Sue . .. .. . I have also been surprised by the lack of postings . .. .. . we are taking a European River cruise this year so I do most of my postings on CruiseCritic . .. .. . wish more cruising folks would post here . .. .

Are you planning any travel?

Pat,
Don't think I'll be leaving the country this year.. ..but that doesn't mean I can't travel vicariously through other people's posts
I did think it was strange to see no activity on the board for over 2 weeks.. ..thought I was missing something.

I keep checking to see if any one is posting. . .

DH and I are staying stateside this year and taking DGS to Yellowstone. This will be the first time in 6 years we are not traveling to Europe!! :( :(
I was real tempted the other day when I received a 1/2 a price offer from Avalon Paris to Nice Guess that will have to wait till next year. Darn!

Globus Tours info

Postby Janeylynn » Tue Jan 27, 2009 8:45 am

I usually travel independently but this summer my sister and I want to travel to Paris & London. My question is.. .. ..when I read the itineraries for most of the tours, such as Globus, etc., it says 'see the House of Parliament', 'see.. .. .'. . Does that mean we just drive by it and take pictures or do we get to tour the places? I usually learn a smattering of the language and take a good language translator, but thought perhaps in France it would be a good idea to take a tour with translators. Anyone have an opinion?

Hi Janeylynn,
I know that in Globus itineraries, anything in capital letters includes an inside visit/tour, whereas anything not capitalized is just a drive-by or perhaps a photo stop. I am not sure how other companies do it. Also with the optional excursions, they are clearly described as such (pay extra for an outing if you choose to). . With Globus it is very up-front and I highly recommend them.
Have a great trip whatever you decide to do!

Globus tours

Postby Janeylynn » Tue Jan 27, 2009 11:19 am

Thanks, Patrice!

I saw the info about the caps but didn't know if that means ALL CAPS or just capitalized first letters, which is what is in the itinerary. I guess it sounds trivial, but I don't want to get there and find out it's all drive-by photo ops.

We have about 10 inches of snow today so I enjoy planning a trip for May or June! Thanks for your response.

Hi Janeylyn,

We are in Kentucky too and right in the middle of this nasty ice storm. We have been without power since about 10:00 am. I am using a generator which we bought last year for our last ice storm in Feb 2009.I'm about tired of it though.
I have used Globus 6 times including 1 river cruise. They are great and very upfront about everything. You might check out their Monogram tours which would allow you a lot of free time. Go to www (dot) globusjourneys (dot) com All inside visits are in capital letters and if not it will say "drive by" or "picture stop." I have learned to take the tours that have a minimum of 2 days, preferably 3 in each location.

If I provide a link it will be deleted, maybe,Actually maybe not as I am a moderator and I won't delete it.

We are here to answer questions so will help anyway we can.

Thanks Letsgo!

I appreciate the info. I'll let you know how it all goes! Stay warm and safe in this ice storm.
