Downhill mountain to sea bike/snorkel in Jamaica

Postby Fabbenn » Tue May 06, 2008 12:37 pm

Just got back from this cruise on Carnival Liberty. Ship was beautiful and cruise was great. The excursion was not good.
I fell off the mountain bike going 25 mph. Got alot of bumps and bruises. This is a very dangerous excursion. After you finish mountain biking (if you survive) then they take you to the ocean to snorkel. Very pretty spot but dangerous. You have to jump off a 20 foot cliff into the ocean which is about 50 feet deep. They throw the snorkling gear at you in the water and don't give you any fins at all or a swimming vest to keep you afloat. Hardly anyone in out group would jump off the cliff and when you tried to get out of water you had a hard time because the waves kept slamming you up against the rocks. They guides were very nice but I think that this excursion should be taken off of the Carnival Cruise line list of excursions for Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

That shore excursion definitely does not sound like it is for senior citizens.

Biking excursion

Gee do you think I'm a senior citizen. I probably was the oldest person on the excursion. But not senior citizen yet.

No, I did not think you were a senior citizen. But if you want to be one someday, I would stay clear of these type of shore excursions.

No, don't get rid of the bicycle. I still ride mine but only on the local asphalt-paved bike trail where there are no vehicles.

Don't fix the flat tires. The exercise is more rigorous if you ride the bicycle while the tires are flat. I had to do that one time.

Next cruise

Postby Fabbenn » Tue Jun 03, 2008 4:40 am

We are doing the Celebrity Mellinium cruise to Australia/New Zealand in November. We had been planning on doing the transatlantic from London to New York stopping in Iceland but my husband didn't want to be gone during the hurricane season since we are from Florida. It was supposed to leave on Sept 15th, the height of the hurricane season so we cancelled that one and booked the Australia/New Zealand cruise. I am waiting for the excursions to appear on the Celebrity web site so we can book them. Have you been to New Zealand?

We are considering New Zealand in 2010 on a combined Holland America cruise and a land tour.

New Zealand/Australia

We cancelled our cruise to Australia/New Zealand and decided to do a 14 day to South America on the NCL SUN leaving in Dec.
We really wanted to see the penguins and there are 3 different ports where you can see penguins
Celebrity took almost one whole day off of Melbourne, Australia which is the place where we would have seen the penguins so we decided to change to South America.
