Golden Fleece and Classical Greece

Golden Fleece and Classical Greece

Postby UsaWanderers » Tue Aug 28, 2007 10:50 am

We are doing the Golden Fleece and Classical Greece tours starting on Sept. 18th. The cruise will be on the Cristal (Louis lines newest ship). . Since packing for a total of 18 days is a major consideration, we were wondering if there is any alternative to the two formal nights on the cruise. We don't really want to pack suit, dress shoes, formal wear etc. just for two nights. Has anyone been on the Cristal yet? Are there alternative restaurants that serve dinner on the formal nights?
Any other comments/suggestions about these two tours would also be appreciated.
Thanks

The Clasical Greece tour is fast paced and very enjoyable. We took the tour in April of this year. If you want an education in ancient history, this is the place to get it.

I don't know about your ship, but most all ships offer room service meals, so there is a way to miss formal night.

We are back from the Golden Fleece and Classical Greece tours, so I'll answer my own question. There were no alternatives to the formal night dinners---those nights the casual buffets were not available and even room service was an extra charge for delivery and for the food!!!!
However, "elegant dress" was very casual. Many people didn't dress up at all----I even saw some people wearing jeans. The women were more "fancy" but 75% of the men didn't even wear a tie. My husband and brother-in-law had suits and were "out of place." We didn't need to pack those!
I agree that the Classical Greece tour is fast paced---with lots of walking and climbing---but wonderful!!!! Also the cruise was not leisurely as we signed up for all the shore excursions and they left very early in the mornings. We didn't experience any of the "nightlife" on the cruise.
