Ciao Italia Tour in July

Ciao Italia Tour in July

Postby lynnpf » Wed Jun 13, 2007 10:32 am

My husband and I are taking our 2 daughters ages 11 and 15 on our first trip to Europe on the Globus Ciao Italia tour on July 7th. I have been reading the discussion boards to get as much info as possible. My 15 year old is getting very concerned about thieves, pickpocketers, etc. Are these issues as wide spread and common as it sounds. It seems like every one is warning us of it. Is she safe to carry a camera? She thinks it will get taken, too! We are also happy to hear of any one who has taken this tour and what were your highlights. Any places that are must see vs. don't bother? Were the hotels satisfactory? Is the 30" luggage restriction as strict as it sounds? Our suitcases measure 32". . Thanks for any info or advice

The pick pockets are out there but just have her carry the camera around her neck and keep her hand on it in crowds.. . Do not put anything valuable in a back pack as that is an easy target. It is really is not any worse then any large US city.Just be careful and don't let anyone bump into you in crowded locations. It just requires you be alert just like any large city here.I have traveled all over Europe, I am a 60ish woman and I have never had a problem. I was raised in the Chicago area so I learned early to be careful and be wary of strangers.I have traveled with a friend on public transportation in many large Europeon cities and it has been fine.Avoid conversations with people who appear too helpful. Better to be safe than sorry. For you get a waist pack that goes under your clothes for credit cards, passports etc and do not carry a purse. Only carry enough cash for 1 or 2 days and use Atms to get cash every few days.
I can't imagine how she got so scared. That is just not necessary. She must have heard it from somewhere.People travel to Europe all the time with their kids and never have a problem. It will be fine and what a wonderful opportunity for them to discover Europe so young!!! I have been on many tours with kids and they were always having a great time!!!

You are very welcome.

You will have a great time.

Your right, smart but NOT paranoid! It is really no different then the US except they do NOT have the violent crime that we have in the States.
