Essential Europe March Question About Free Time Paris, etc

Postby TAM12 » Tue Jan 16, 2007 11:39 am

In Paris, about what time the including sightseeing will be over and where ? (at the hotel or ??)
How much free time you have between the optional tour at night ? Please advise then, we can make a plan for this free time since we decided not to take a optional to Versailles. And same question at London too, please. I am in search of Paris city walking and shopping, I am not started at London yet, are they any suggestions to spend a little free time at London (for shopping mostly) please ? Thank you ! Oh it is so cold in Los Angeles today.. .. .

The included sight seeing tours are usually over about noon. It is no problem to leave the bus when you are in the center of town or anytime you want for that matter as long as you tell the TD what you are doing. You will then have to get yourself back to the hotel. In Paris, after many of us passed on Versaille we were dropped off in the middle of town. Some went to the Louvre, others to the Mueseum D"orsay and others went shopping or just explored on their own.By the way it is MUCH cheaper to see the Louvre on your own then doing it as an optional! The guides are good about giving you instructions on finding your own way back to your hotel.Good idea to skip Versaille as those that went were very disappointed.Europe is very safe and generally speaking the big cities have excellent public transportation. Also you can always catch a cab. I have been to London several times and the last time traveled on my own with DH for 5 days in London.THere is so much to see and do you could not see it all in 10 trips!!!!

I agree, Letsgo, there is so much to do in London! We were there last September for 6 nights and couldn't fit it all in. In Paris, we passed on the optional tour to Versailles, but went on our own for a fraction of the cost. I wasn't disappointed.. ..the gardens alone were worth the trip!

The provided tours end about noon. In Paris, we opted for no optional day tours and went shopping at the Galleries Lafayette. Some members of our group walked over to Notre Dame. We made arrangements on our own for the Moulin Rouge using the Concierge at our Hotel and took a taxi over and back.In London, again no optional day tours and we went over to the Hard Rock Cafe. We had an extra day in London and that is when we hit Harrods.

The Moulin Rouge show was excellent. We saw the other Cabaret offered by the tour on a prior visit and it was a let down. The Moulin Rouge is the Moulin Rouge.

Hey mangoeater, did you go to both the show and the dinner, or just the show? Was it part of the optionals or did you do on your own?

Thanks,
Chichi
