Argentina is not on my list of countries to visit. I have heard that Americans have had problems there.

We originally wanted our second big trip to be to London and Paris (last year was Italy). .. .. . I think we'll stick with that. After seeing EVITA, my husband got it in his head that Argentina might be an interesting place to visit (and we had a friend who went there). .

I agree. Do the London / Paris Trip. We did it as our first trip to Europe in August 2001 just before 9/11. The trip was 13 nights; 5 in London, 3 in Paris and then back to London for 5 more nights. We did the Chunnel train round trip to Paris. Check out the Copthorne Tara hotel in London.
