Airport to Rome Hotel.. .. .. . Shuttle???

Airport to Rome Hotel.. .. .. . Shuttle???

Postby PricePerformer » Mon Oct 02, 2006 10:16 am

Due to a planned side trip, we did not get air from Globus, thus no transfers.

We found the Rome Airport Shuttle at 32Euros one way for 2.
Any experience with this?

How was the Globus pickup?
Has anyone bought the Globus transfers Ala carte?

thanks.

We did not use the Globus air, but our travel agent purchased the Globus Transfers for our arrival in Rome and for our departure from London. I am very happy with this decision.

We used the airport shuttle in Rome when we arrived a day early on July 1 for our Essential Europe tour. There was no problem finding them. Someone had a sign out with our name on it right after you get through Italian customs and after baggage claim. Once everyone taking the shuttle was rounded up (it took about 15 minutes), we were off.

The drive was an adventure, though! It felt like we were in NASCAR! Our driver flew down the highway. He stopped at another passenger's hotel first, which was down a cobblestone street. That didn't slow him down much, so we bounced around in the back of the van. He then took us right to our hotel.

My wife and I laugh at this as we look back on it. It was quite an interesting ride; what a way to start our trip! If you're the type that gets nervous when others drive fast, then maybe this isn't for you. At no time did we really feel unsafe, but it was a bit of a shock. Not sure if we'd do the shuttle again, now that we've been to Rome already and now the city layout (we'd take the train to Termini and then get a taxi), but it wouldn't be because of poor service. If you've never been to Rome before and you're a little concerned about security since you're carrying luggage, then I would definitely recommend the shuttle. Just be prepared for a wild ride!

Rome Transfers

Postby PricePerformer » Wed Oct 04, 2006 8:14 am

Hi MangoEater

Interesting that I was never offered Globus Transfers, when I declined their air.

I called my agent and had transfers added. The price was about the same as the Shuttle. ($20 PP each way.. .. . $40 vs 32 Euros or $38 for the shuttle). .

Seems this will be easier.. .. . with less chance of getting scammed or to the wrong place.

Many Thanks

Hi PricePerformer - I am sure that you will find that this will be more convenient. When we arrived in Rome for the beginning of our Tour, Globus reps were on the lookout for us and quickly put us on our Bus to the Hotel. We had an extra day in London at the end of our Essential Europe Tour and when we arrived in London, Globus gave us our airport shuttle departure time for our departure day - perfect.

Enjoy Your Tour, MangoEater

Hi MangoEater

Your advice was excellent. As we approached the baggage carousel in Rome, we were approached by a Globus rep. (How did they know.) They held the 10:00AM Bus for us for a few minutes.. .. . Perfect. The transfer back to the airport was also flawless.

I appreciate your advice to get the Globus transfers from our travel agent.. .. . even though we did not buy the Globus air.

In fairness, there were a few folks on our tour who did not appreciate sitting on the bus for 2 hours before it left the airport. As I recall, the bus ran at 10AM and 1PM. There were probably other times, but I do not know them.

Thanks Again

It is just not that hard to get around in the major Europeon cities and I would not appreciate sitting on the bus for 2 hours either.Just think of all the things you could see in 2 hours! I guess it depends on what time your plane arrives in relation to the time Globus bus is scheduled.
We like to go a day early and stay a day after the tour so we do not use the Globus transfers. We do not stay those extra days at the Globus hotels as I have found I can do better price wise finding my own hotel through tripadvisor. I can get a hotel just as nice for about 1/2 of what the Globus hotel costs.
