Does Globus charge a deviation fee if you want to take their air but go a day earlier or stay one extra day?

No. We arrived a day early in Rome, and stayed an extra day in London, and Globus took care of both our hotel and air arrangements. You pay extra, of course, for the extra days, but no extra fee for the airline.

Isn't that only if you use their hotels? The amount they charge for extra days in their hotels is outrageous! I just made a reservation in Amsterdam for an extra day at the end of my tour next summer for 119 euro which is about 144.00 usd.Globus wanted $220.00 per person! That would be $440.00 for 1 night!!!!
In Budapest I reserved a room for 85.00 euro about 111.00usd. I use www ..com to find my hotels.I have also found that most of the time it is cheaper and better connections to make my own air arrangements. I then do some reasearch and find the best way to get to my hotel or airport. Sometimes it is better to use Globus transfer and sometimes not.
Just IMHO!

We paid $142/person for the extra night in Rome, and $133/person for the extra night in London. I think that's very reasonable. The price included breakfast and we didn't have to worry about moving our luggage from one hotel to the next. We got a coupon in our itinerary booklet that we gave the hotel in Rome and that was that.

The Globus book tells you (in small print) how much extra nights are, so if it sounds exorbitant to you, then by all means check out other places on your own.

Yes that is not bad if it is for 1 person but for 2 people I think it is very expensive.
The rooms I booked were for a room,2 people and also included breakfast for 2 and the prices I quoted were straight from the Globus book. I guess if you are traveling alone it's not bad but if you multiply it by 2 it is a whole lot of money. At least to me it is.

I like to explore on my own so I don't see getting to the departure hotel as a big problem at all.I often plan my own tours and skip the optionals to go off on our own.

Whatever you do Globus is a great company and you will have a wonderful time.

Hi Letsgo,
We, too are doing a Rhine river cruise next June. I need to book a hotel for 2 nights in Amsterdam at the end of our Viking Cruise on June 24 & 25. I also use Tripadvisor and have had very good luck for wonderful hotels on Victoria Island and Buenos Aires. Besides price, what criteria do you use for choosing a hotel? What hotel did you choose in Amsterdam?

Thanks for any info,

Spencermi

I use tripadvisor for hotels all the time. At least to find the one I want. Go to the Amsterdam hotel forum on tripadvisor and start going down the list of hotels. They are listed in order of popularity starting with number 1. I use location, price, rating and reviews of people who have stayed there. I always want something close to public transportaion and like incl breakfast and air cond.. . I have booked a room in Amsterdam at the ACH Leidse Square Hotel in July for 119E incl breakfast for 2 people. A whole lot cheaper than the Globus price for 2 of $278.00 at their hotel. Forget that!

On tripadvisor they give you the option to check hotel prices so I use that search. You can then book directly through those web sites. There are usually several other web sites that book hotels so I just look for the best deal.
Have fun planning. I love that part. I also have a great deal on a hotel on a hotel in Budapest if you are interested.

Hi Letsgo,
Thanks for your quick reply! ( isn't this a great way to spend a lazy Sunday? Especially while my husband watches football). . Please give me the name of the Budapest hotel as my sister will be flying there a day earlier than our Riverboat leaves. We will be coming from London after visiting an old cruising friend we met on a cruise in Australia.

I love doing research, ie, detective work in finding great places at great prices. I spent a whole day coming up with a "nearly perfect" flight plan for the Viking trip. That means the fewest stops, minimal layovers, no change of airport or airlines if possible, and a really low price. I use Orbitz to mix and match flights, but I booked with onetravel.com, a part of Sidestep.com.

Thanks again,
Spencermi

Hi,
I used Orbitz also and got a good rate I thought.. . When I went back and looked at the same flights just 1 week later it had increased by $1000.00 pp.so I was lucky to get the rate on the 1 or 2 days that it had dropped that low. I had been checking it every day for several weeks. Fun!! Isn't it!

The Budapest hotel is the Marriott Executive Apartments Millenium Court. Those reservations were made through Orbitz. My initial search was on tripadvisor for a hotel and I used their links..Orbitz happened to have the best rate on this particular hotel. We got it for 85 Euro.per night. It is in a great location and rated number 1 by tripadvisor.Sure can't beat the price either.
FYI our reservations at the hotel in Amsterdam are checking in 7/22 and out 7/23. Also a great location in a very lively part of town. It is very close to the canal boats. Did you know they have a hop on hop off canal boat that goes to all the major locations in Amsterdam. The tickets are good for 24 hours and is called the "the canal bus 24 hr pass.. . 'Use it as much as you want.

Hi Letsgo,
Again, thanks for the info. I have looked for info also on the
cruisecritic.com web site because I have connected with folks who are going on our Galaxy Cruise in nov. I found some great Amsterdam info from a gal, (Elaine) who just got back and posted her own website.
